Racial Profiling

  • The Katy Independent School District supports the 77th Texas Legislature's mandate prohibiting racial profiling in Texas. Our police officers work under a departmental policy that is consistent with all state and federal laws. The policy includes provisions for citizens to contact us if they have a conflict with a Katy Independent School District police officer.

Since January 1, 2002, the Katy Independent School District police department, in accordance with the Texas Code of Criminal Procedures Article 2.132 (b)(7), has been collecting police contact data for the purpose of identifying and responding to concerns regarding racial profiling practices. The data analysis documented within the Racial Profiling Report for the last calendar year suggests that the Katy Independent Police Department is not currently experiencing a problem regarding racial profiling practices. This is also supported by the fact that no complaints from community members regarding officers misconduct associated with racial profiling practices have been received.

The data was submitted to the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) as required by the Texas Code of Criminal Procedures Article 2.131-2.138. The public can obtain an electronic copy of the Racial Profiling Report from TCOLE by visiting their website.

Citizens feeling that they have a legitimate concern may make a formal complaint to the Katy Independent School District Police Department at any time. Information on the complaint process may be obtained from any member of this department. Additional information about this process may be obtained by calling us at (281) 237-4000 or e-mailing Katy ISD Police Department.

We are very proud of the relationship the Katy Independent School District Police Department shares with the community. Our longstanding goal is to provide our students, staff, and visitors with a safe and secure learning environment.
