• Immediate Enrollment for Students in DFPS Conservatorship

Students placed in the conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) have the legal right to immediate school enrollment, even if key documents are not available at the time of registration.

Under Texas Family Code §262, school districts must enroll students in DFPS conservatorship immediately—regardless of missing documents such as:

    • Immunization records
    • Academic transcripts
    • Birth certificate

DFPS/Guardians are responsible for providing the required documents within 30 days of enrollment.

    Educational Decision-Making
The student’s guardian must present Form 2085-E at the time of enrollment to assign educational decision-making rights.
