How do I access my course?
Students access their course through MyKaty. Log in with your KISD user name and password. Search for Canvas or Katy Virtual School. You will automatically be logged into the learning management system. If you do not know your password, contact the Parent Helpdesk.How do I view my grades?
Instructions on viewing grades in Canvas.Is my course self-paced?
Online courses have specific due dates and are not self-paced. Students can move ahead in a course, but must take care not to get behind. Students are expected to work weekly on their course to ensure completion by the end of the semester to be prepared for the semester exam.What technology am I required to have to be successful in my course?
Students are expected to provide their own technology, including a computer, Internet access, Google Chrome, a headset with microphone and a webcam. Students can use their District issued Chromebook.What is Online Proctoring?
Most KVS exams are proctored online to ensure test integrity. Please review the online proctoring information in the Student Guidebook.How many courses can I take?
Students may take two courses per term regardless of level.Can I exempt my final exam?
There are no exemptions for online courses.How do I Access Digital Textbooks?
Katy Virtual School courses use digital textbooks and all resources are included in the online course. Some courses such as PE or Professional Communications do not have a textbook. Courses will have information for accessing digital textbooks.How much time should a student spend on an AP course during the summer?
Students should expect to commit a minimum of 25 hours per week during the summer. It is recommended students log in a minimum of 3-4 times a week.How much time should a student spend on a KAP course during the summer?
Students should expect to commit a minimum of 20 hours per week during the summer. It is recommended students log in a minimum of 3-4 times a week. How much time should a student spend on an academic level course during the summer?

It is recommended that students contact their teacher through Canvas by using the Canvas Inbox. Follow these directions to contact your teacher.Do courses appear on my schedule, Progress Report and Report Card?
Yes, all KVS courses are scheduled and grades will be displayed on Progress Reports and Report Cards.Do KVS courses count towards UIL or extracurricular eligibility?
Yes, otherwise designated by Katy ISD as courses that meet exemption status for UIL or extracurricular eligibility. Please refer to the TEA/UIL Side by Side Handbook and your child's campus counselor for exemption guidelines.Who do I contact if there is a grade discrepancy?
Contact your teacher by using the Canvas Inbox.How do I drop a course?
To drop a course, the parent or guardian should email Katy Virtual School with the student ID, course to be dropped and first/last name. Requests must be directed to Katy Virtual School as teachers and counselors do not have the ability to drop a KVS course. Drop requests made by phone will not be honored.Parent FAQs
How do I pay for my student's course?
Payment can be made after a student has been enrolled in a course through the District payment system A+ Pay N' Go. For directions, visit the Katy ISD A+ Pay N' Go website.How do I view my child's course?

It is recommended that parents contact their child's teacher through Canvas by using the Canvas Inbox. For directions, refer to this guide.Who is eligible for a refund?
View the KVS calendar to see the last day to drop with a refund.My child has changed their mind and decided not to take the KVS course. How do I get a refund?
Prior to requesting a refund, students must be dropped from the course. Refunds are issued in the original form of payment and processed by the District Business Office. Consult the KVS calendar for the last date to drop with a refund. Refunds must be requested in the same semester a course is taken.What happens if I don't pay for my child's course?
Students who are scheduled in a KVS course after the determined refund eligibility date are required to pay for the course regardless of completion. Students who do not pay for their course will have a hold placed on their exemptions and student records. Students will not be issued credit for an unpaid course and the student may need to retake the course.
