What does the acronym, “CLASS 1:1 Student to Device,” stand for?

Why CLASS 1:1?
This acronym highlights the purpose of the program — placing the emphasis on connected learning rather than the tools used to support the learning. Academics is at the forefront of the work we do across Katy ISD campuses, and access for all students to academic resources is a foundational advantage of the CLASS 1:1 Student to Device initiative. Student success in classroom instruction and online assessment is key. Finally, the word “class” grounds the CLASS 1:1 Student to Device initiative in classroom instruction, emphasizing the role of the teacher in student learning, and highlighting the enhanced efficiency in technology-integrated classroom experiences.

What is a Chromebook?
A Chromebook is a secured browser-based laptop that runs a Chrome Operating System.

What is MyKaty?
MyKaty Cloud is a web portal that provides Katy ISD staff, students, and parents/guardians with a single sign-on location to access district applications and educational resources.

Where can I locate additional information about Katy ISD’s CLASS 1:1 Student to Device initiative program?
Information about the CLASS 1:1 initiative can be found on the Katy ISD website and OnTheGo mobile app.

Will the transition to Chromebooks and access to online textbooks impact hard copy textbooks?
Students will have access to their textbooks on their Chromebooks. However, hard copy textbooks will continue to be available upon request.

Will there be insurance for the Chromebooks?
Yes. Insurance for Chromebooks is $20 per student device each year. The insurance covers two repairs or one replacement. If a Chromebook has to be repaired for a third time or a second replacement, the parent or guardian is responsible for the cost.

What if my student loses or damages the charger or case?
The insurance does not cover the case and charger. If they are lost or damaged, the replacement costs are below:
Charger - $15
Case - $20 -
What is the cost for damaged or lost Chromebooks?
If a Chromebook is not insured or if the insurance has been exhausted, the cost for repairs and replacement are below:
Broken Screen - $120
Broken Keyboard - $90
Chromebook - $300
