Student Guidelines

  • Student guidelines and expectations are discussed thoroughly with each student during the first three days of the school year and reviewed again upon the students’ arrival from Winter Break. The students have an opportunity to ask questions concerning the guidelines in this handbook at that time. Faculty and staff do this in an organized manner to ensure that each student understands the expectations and policies for which he/she is held accountable.

    Phones/ Social Media/ Technology Use:

Cell phones are a prevalent part of everyone’s lives…including our students. While cellphones are an integral part of our lives, they do pose a major distraction for teaching and learning. As a result, PHS has strict guidelines that must be adhered to by all stakeholders.

    Cell Phones:

    • See KatyISD Cell Phone Policy

    Recording:

Recording on a telecommunication device outside of instructional purposes is not allowed. Recording on campus affects the safety of all campus stakeholders. To maintain a safe learning environment, students who record on campus are subject to the following discipline guidelines.

    • Recording oneself for social media or using facetime (or similar applications) with people off campus will result in a detention.

    • Recording in a restroom or locker room will result in ISS.

    • Recording a person without their knowledge will result in ISS.

    • Recording any altercation between two or more parties will result in ISS.

The above situations are examples of consequences due to video recording.  This is not a comprehensive list, but situations outside of the above referenced examples will lead to detention or ISS.

    Earbuds:

    • Students may wear a single earbud before school, in common areas, and transitioning to the next class.

    • Earbuds will not be allowed during class.

Multitasking is a myth and does not work. When completing multiple tasks, a person’s attention must be divided. For example, doing homework and listening to music is not 100% for each task. Rather, it is 30% focused on homework and 70% focused on the lyrics. This hinders learning!
