    Suzie Calarco

Hello! My name is Suzie Calarco, and I am one of KDE's music teachers. This will be my 20th year teaching music, and the 10th year teaching music at KDE! I graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor's of Music in Music Therapy, and enjoyed a 10 year career in that field before starting my teaching career. I have completed Kodaly training, and I am a Kodaly certified music teacher. My teaching certifications are EC-4 Generalist and K-12 Music. I am predominately a flute player, though I also enjoy singing and playing the piano and guitar. I have been married for 28 years to my hubby Daniel, and we have 3 children and 1 grandchild together. My oldest son Ben is a Lt. JG in the Navy, and serves in the submarine service as a Nuclear Engineer. Although he and his wife Elle were married during Covid quarantine, they will have their wedding celebration this year! My middle son Brett is a specialist in the Army, and serves as an Air Traffic Controller. His son, Aaron is such a delight, and we are thrilled to have him in our family. My daughter Sarah graduated from Tompkins HS this past May, and I adore watching her compete as an International Latin Ballroom dancer! I feel extremely fortunate that I get to sing and play with children for a living.

    Rachel Fortenberry

Hi! My name is Rachel Fortenberry. I am excited to start my 12th year of teaching! I taught 5th grade ELA for 2 years at Fielder Elementary and began teaching Art in 2014 when Davidson Elementary opened it's doors. I have a Bachelors in Interdisciplinary Studies and am certified to teach ec-6th general education and ec-12th art education. I have been married to my high school sweetheart for over 20 years and we have 2 amazing boys together. Teaching art to my students fills me with so much joy. In the classroom I live for those "aha moments". Just like Picasso, I believe every child is an artist. I love helping my students learn how they can make beautiful things that enrich theirs and others lives, and make them smile. When I am not teaching I enjoy spending time with family, creating with my boys, painting, working out, reading, gardening and cooking. I can not wait to create with my amazing little artists this year!
