Dyslexia Intervention
The mission statement of Katy Independent School District dyslexia program, in partnership with parents, teacher(s), and administrators, is to educate and provide all students identified with dyslexia or related disorders with research-based instruction and support to prepare them to be successful, life-long-learners, effective communicator, successful readers and writers, and conscientious members of society.

Curriculum
Katy ISD dyslexia intervention meets TEA’s requirements for instruction:
- Evidence-based and effective for students with dyslexia
- Taught by appropriately trained instructors
- Implemented with fidelity
Components
- Phonological awareness
- Sound - symbol association
- Syllabication
- Orthography
- Morphology
- Syntax
- Reading comprehension
- Reading fluency
Elementary intervention
- Students attend a dyslexia group for 120 minutes a week.
- Groups generally meet during small group instruction time in their grade level schedule.
- Groups are no larger than 6 students

Dyslexia Handbook:
The State Board of Education (SBOE) in Texas approved in 2018 a revision to the State’s Dyslexia Handbook. As mandated in the handbook, school districts shall provide parents of children suspected of having dyslexia or a related disorder with a copy or a link to the electronic version of the Dyslexia Handbook: Procedures Concerning Dyslexia and Related Disorders, 2018 Update.
