• About Ms. Allen

My name is Emily Allen, and I am a counselor at Jenks Elementary School.  This year I am the “ladybug lady” for grades 1, 3, and 5.  I grew up in Katy and attended Nottingham Country Elementary School, Memorial Parkway Junior High, and graduated from Taylor High School.  I have been away from the area living in Dallas and then Lafayette, LA for the past 20+ years.  I am so excited to be back home and to serve in the school district that gave me such an excellent foundational education.   I taught middle school math for 18 years and have been an elementary school counselor for the last 5 years.

When at school, I love helping students manage their emotions and learn to solve problems.  I enjoy using a lot of play therapy techniques because a child’s first language and easiest way to express themselves is through play.

When not at school, I love watching TV, reading, eating delicious food, and spending time with family, friends, and my two adorable cats.

    Philosophy

“I used to be afraid of failing at something that really mattered to me, but now I'm more afraid of succeeding at things that don't matter.”  Love Does by Bob Goff

I want my interactions with children to really matter.  I desire to educate, encourage, and empower students, teaching them social and emotional skills they can use for the rest of their lives.
