• School Counseling Services

As school counselors, a major part of our role is to help create a safe and productive school culture where students feel connected.  Having a culture of connectedness is more important than ever in today's uncertain climate.  To provide a safe and productive school culture, we  deliver a comprehensive school counseling program that advocates for students' needs.  Through advocacy, we become champions for all of our students.

    Wolfpack Student Ambassadors

A Wolfpack Student Ambassador is someone who represents WCJH in a positive manner and helps build a community within our school.  Student Ambassadors are role models and leaders.  One of the major roles of a Student Ambassador is to provide new students with an introduction to WCJH by giving them a tour, introducing them to their teachers and providing them with a familiar face.  A Wolfpack member can be from 6th, 7th, or 8th grade.  Student Ambassadors are nominated by a faculty member, and then receive an application that must be submitted to the Counseling Office.  Counselors review applications and notify students that are chosen to be Student Ambassadors.

    KEYS Mentoring

Keep Encouraging Youth Toward Success (KEYS) is a district program that matches a caring adult with a student on the brink of success.  The primary focus is on relationship building rather than tutoring, although we've found that increased student academic success often occurs.  A KEYS Mentor meets with one student once per week on campus.  All mentors must make a one-school year commitment to a student and complete an application and background check.  If you are interested in becoming a KEYS Mentor please contact Mrs. Mercadel, the WCJH KEYS Liaison.

    Character Strong

The counselors and teachers at WCJH deliver lessons on student well-being throughout the school year.  These lessons teach students self-management skills; how to persevere; how to develop social awareness and relationship skills to work well with others; and how to make responsible decisions.  We believe students need these skills in order to be successful.  Therefore, we use the Character Strong program to teach these skills in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade classrooms.

    Mission Statement

The mission of the WCJH counseling department is to provide a comprehensive counseling program that addresses the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students.  We will offer direct support to students through academic advising, individual counseling, and group counseling.  We will serve as an advocate for students' social, emotional, and developmental needs.  We will also support teachers in providing a rich learning environment for all students which will enable them to live meaningful and successful lives in society and in the workplace.  We will work in partnership with parents and the community.  This partnership will help ensure that all students at WCJH have the opportunities they need to become lifelong learners and productive members of society.
