Principal
My name is Dr. Kari N. Torres, and I am the proud Principal of Sundown Elementary! Education has been my passion for thirty-one years. I started my career at Alief ISD, where I served as a classroom teacher, a Master Reading Teacher, a Team Leader and an Instructional Specialist. I was the Program Supervisor for Elementary Second Language Education in Alief before moving to Katy ISD. In Katy ISD, I had the opportunity to serve as an Assistant Principal at Fielder Elementary, and a Student Support Assistant Principal at WoodCreek Junior High, before opening Adams Junior High School as an Assistant Principal. In January 2022, I became the Principal of Sundown Elementary, and I am honored to lead this amazing school. I believe that all children can learn, and that safety and well-being is paramount to learning success. Students deserve the best and at Sundown Elementary, we will strive to ensure that all our Armadillos leave elementary school ready to grow and learn in junior high and beyond.

Assistant Principal
Hello, my name is Karla Sanchez, and I am truly honored to serve as the Assistant Principal at Sundown Elementary. My journey in education began in 2012 in Brownsville, TX, where I started as a 5th-grade Dual Language Teacher. This role sparked my deep passion for bilingual education and a commitment to ensuring every student's success.
In 2014, my family and I relocated to Katy, TX, where I was fortunate to join Katy ISD. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of serving in various roles, including 5th-grade Two-Way Immersion Teacher, ESL ISST, Academic Support Team Leader, and Instructional Coordinator. Each of these roles has enriched my understanding of the diverse needs of our students and staff, further reinforcing my dedication to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
For the past two years, I’ve proudly served as the Assistant Principal at Sundown Elementary. It has been a true privilege to work alongside such a dedicated team of educators who are committed to making a difference in the lives of our students.
Outside of school, I cherish the time spent with my family, exploring new places, and creating lasting memories with my three boys. Being both a mother and an educator are two of my greatest blessings. I am eagerly looking forward to another exciting school year with our amazing Armadillos!
