Katy Independent School District
Parent and Family Engagement Policy 2024-2025
Katy ISD Mission Statement
Katy Independent School District, the leader in educational excellence, together with family and community, provides unparalleled learning experiences designed to prepare and inspire each student to live an honorable, fulfilling life -- to create the future.
Be the Legacy!
Katy Independent School District has the highest regard for parents, students, and their families. Family and parental involvement is a critical area for increasing success in all students. The partnership between school and home will benefit from two-way, meaningful communication. This communication will strengthen and reinforce everyone’s desire for continued achievement for every child in the district.
Developing the Policy
This policy was developed from input given by parents, campus staff, administrators, and district personnel. The format and language of this policy is designed to be easily read and understood. A copy of this policy will be made available to parents and other members of the community upon request.
Each school that receives Title 1 funds will also develop a parental engagement policy and parent-school compact specific to that campus. Families are encouraged to attend campus meetings or offer input through phone calls, electronic communication, or other contact with Title I staff. All policies will be available to families on the campus upon request, or online. For questions or suggestions regarding Title I or the Parent and Family Engagement Policy, please call the campus at 281.237.6850.
Annual Evaluation/Meetings
Each year the Katy ISD Parent and Family Engagement Policy is reviewed and evaluated by parents, campus staff members, administrators, and district personnel. Parents of Title I students can also make suggestions through the “Title I Program Family Questionnaire” (sent at the end of the school year), and at the Title I Public Meeting held in May of each year. Suggestions for campus level policies should be submitted in writing to the campus principal.
Building Capacity and Coordination with Other Programs
Coordination, technical assistance, and other support will be provided by the district to assist campuses and families in planning and implementing parent and family engagement activities. This coordination will also include other programs in order to maximize district, state, and federal funding. Katy ISD is required to set aside 1% of its Title I funds for the purpose of parental involvement. Those funds will be divided among the Title I campuses. Katy ISD will spend Title I funds according to identified, comprehensive needs assessment and Title I guidelines.
Professional development for staff members will occur in order to expand parental involvement training and interaction with families. Training will also be offered to families through campus and Title I staff, and district Parent Centers, such as Hutsell or Sundown Elementary Schools.
