About the Counselor

Hello all! My name is Bianca Whitaker. I am so grateful and appreciative for the opportunity to be the  school counselor at Bear Creek Elementary! I’m excited to share some background information about myself. I was born in Houston, TX, and raised in Tulsa, OK. I have been an educator for seven years, including three years in administration at the district level. I taught English in South Korea, science in Aldine ISD and Kuwait, and worked as a science content specialist for the past three years in a charter school district. I received my Bachelor of Science in Biology (minor in Chemistry) and Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Sam Houston State University. I recently received my Master of Science in Counseling from the CACREP-Accredited University of Houston-Clear Lake. I am a certified 7-12 Science and 4-8 Math Teacher, and EC-12 School Counselor.

I am also pursuing Licensed Professional Counselor licensure in the state of Texas. I was fortunate to have gained experiential school counseling experience by serving as the interim school counselor for a semester in my past charter school district. As a first-year school counselor, I am eager to collaborate, consult, support, and normalize healthy and positive experiences for students, teachers, staff, and the community. To support my efforts as a school counselor, I am a member of the Texas Counseling Association, the Texas School Counselor Association, and Chi Sigma Iota, an honor society for professional counselors. While not actively pursuing my “why”, I enjoy a peaceful walk, reading, listening to music, laughing, and finding the perfect gif to express how I feel (Haha!).

I am excited and fortunate for the opportunity to be in Katy ISD as the school counselor for Bear Creek Elementary. I believe that every child deserves equitable support and that fostering mental wellness and holistic development for students requires a team effort. We are all a piece of a puzzle that connects students and the community to betterment and opportunities. So, I remind each of us, with a quote from James Baldwin, that “the hope of the world lies in what one demands, not of others, but of oneself.”
