Student Zone

  • Safety & Security
A safe learning environment for all students is the top priority of the Katy Independent School District. Assessment, planning, development of protocols, training and evaluation are key components in ensuring that our students’ education will not be disrupted by any safety concerns and that our staff are properly trained to respond to any emergency situation.

    Bullying
The Texas Education Code defines bullying as engaging in written or verbal expression, expression through electronic means, or physical conduct that occurs on school property, at a school-sponsored or school-related activity, or in a vehicle operated by the district that:

    • Has the effect or will have the effect of physically harming a student, damaging a student's property, or placing a student in reasonable fear of harm to the student's person or of damage to the student's property
    • It is sufficiently severe, persistent, or pervasive enough that the action or threat creates an intimidating, threatening, or abusive educational environment for a student.

Safe Drug Free School & Communities
The purpose of the Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities Program is to support comprehensive drug use prevention and violence prevention. Specifically, the program is to:

    • Prevent violence in and around schools
    • Prevent the illegal use of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs
    • Involve parents and communities
    • Empower students through P.O.W.E.R. Academies taught by KISD Police
    • Coordinate with related federal, state, and community efforts and resources to foster safe and drug-free

    Student Safety
Each campus has a school safety liaison that is responsible for planning, mitigating, and responding to safety and security issues. To report a safety and security concern related to school property or a school-sponsored event, call the specific campus principal, or school safety liaison.

    Truancy Enforcement
The truancy enforcement officers work closely with campus administrators to prevent unexcused absences. However, when all interventions fail, criminal charges are brought against the students or parents who intentionally violate the state compulsory attendance statutes. For more information about compulsory attendance laws, call the Katy ISD Police Department at (281) 237-4000.
