West Memorial Elementary opened in 1973 as the third elementary school in Katy ISD. Our campus is rich in traditions and remembers the past while creating a future of continued student success. The West Memorial community works in a family atmosphere to provide encouragement and high expectations for all students. West Memorial Elementary is a high performing Title I school which provides a strong instructional program that believes that all children can be successful.

All West Memorial teachers are all highly qualified, ESOL certified, and were chosen not only for their knowledge of curriculum and instructional strategies, but also because they understand the developmental needs of students. Key qualities sought in candidates are flexibility, organization, and a willingness to learn, grow, and do whatever it takes to make a student successful. In addition, we expand the curriculum with activities and opportunities to maximize student achievement. The school's curriculum is enriched by a hands-on problem solving approach to mathematics, a science lab for experiments, abundant literary resources in our book-leveled literacy library, classroom wireless lap top access, computer lab internet lessons, and an extensive school library that includes book clubs and on-going class library lessons. In addition, all classrooms have Smart Boards, document cameras, and have access to iPads to deliver engaging lessons in whole and small group instructional lessons.

All grade levels enjoy art, music, and physical education classes, as well as, Junior Achievement lessons in all classes. Students have opportunities to participate in our Student Council, Safety Patrol, WME 4th and 5th grade choir, a musical group that performs both on and away from campus, Katy ISD Spelling Bee, Destination Imagination, and our after school Read, Deed, Run Program. Each year we celebrate reading through our Character Book Parade down Provincial Boulevard. The WMJH marching band provides the music and our students dress in different costumes depicting grade level character themes. This community event is enjoyed by all.

WME is proud of the parent and community involvement that we know to be an integral part of our school's success. Opportunities to get involved in our students education include; Meet the Teacher Night, Parent Orientation Curriculum Night, Literacy Night, Math and Science Night, and through many of our choir and art activities. Parent communication is enhanced through eNews communication, our new electronic marque, newsletters, and PTA fliers. Volunteer parents and community members put in an incredible amount of hours working in our building in a variety of ways. Our strong academic foundation is greatly supported through the efforts of volunteers and our PTA.

We welcome you to West Memorial Elementary.
