Classroom Guidance Lessons- Guidance lessons are given to classrooms throughout the year.  These lessons provide strategies and concepts that help students to be successful in the classroom and with friends.  With the ever changing demands and influences in the lives of our children, learning can be impacted considerably. Therefore, interventions are an integral parent of the learning process.  School Counseling at Youngblood Elementary is based upon giving students the tools to be successful in school.  Our goal is for those skills to be carried over into lifelong learning in all avenues, including academic, personal, and social interaction.

Individual Counseling-In a school setting, a school counselor does brief, solution-focused counseling which addresses problems within a few sessions. The school setting is different than a therapeutic/clinical setting where diagnosis and treatment plans are created and treatment is administered for a longer period of time. The goal of school counseling is to address issues which impact learning while at school.   If issues continue to impact the student's learning at school, after intervention by the school counselor, a referral to an outside resource can be suggested to the parent/guardian.  If you would like a copy of the district provided referral list of community agencies, therapists and counselors, please contact your child's counselor.

Group Counseling- Sometimes a child's needs are best served through the use of group counseling.  In group counseling, the students come together to work on a common need or concern.  The counselor facilitates groups and strives to provide the students with strategies that will aid in their success.

K.E.Y.S. Program (Keep Encouraging Youth toward Success) - Through this program, students meet with adult mentors. If you think your child would benefit from the program, please contact your school counselor for details.

P.A.L.S. Program (Peer Assistants and Leadership) - PALS is a peer assistance program offering selected high school students the opportunity to work as trained peer facilitators with students on our campus. This year, Youngblood will host student from Paetow High School. During each weekly visit, our students will have the opportunity to play games and build a relationship with their PAL mentor.  Students are nominated for PALS based on a variety of reasons.  PALS are considered an extra cheerleader, a role model, a support system, an encourager, and so much more. This structured program is monitored and supported by both the campus counselor and PHS advisor.
