Since it first opened in 1989, Pattison Elementary has maintained a reputation for academic excellence and for the high quality education its students receive. Our warm, friendly, family-oriented atmosphere is enhanced by high levels of parent and community involvement.

Pattison's teachers are focused on student-centered learning in all areas. Working collaboratively, solving problems in multiple ways, and total technology integration are emphasized.

At Pattison elementary, we believe that a love of literacy is nurtured by integrating choice, collaboration and purpose into literacy tasks.  Deeper learning occurs when children are actively engaged in reading, writing, and communicating for real purposes and audiences. With our strong community of practice, we collaborate across grade levels to build effective foundational skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Since 2018, our primary teachers dedicate daily instructional time for phonics and phonological awareness. Also, K-5 teachers devote time daily to small group instruction to support students with their literacy progress and development.

Small group math instruction, supported with numeracy and the model method of problem solving, is also a focus at Pattison. In 2011, several math teachers from Pattison attended the National Singapore Math Conference in Las Vegas where they received in-depth training in these areas.

The 5-E Model combined with interactive experiments and real-world learning experiences is the emphasis of our science instruction. Many of our intermediate science teachers have attended the Science Institute through Rice University where they received extensive training in hands-on science instruction and a high quality of deep questioning strategies.

At Pattison Elementary, technology integration is essential in everyday learning and growing so students may successfully use it as a tool for life-long learning. This vision is achieved through appropriate hardware, software, and staff development in the effective use of several technologies. The technology program is supported by a computerized learning resource center, multiple computers in each classroom with the use of Internet resources and SMART panels in all K-5 classrooms. Students in grades 2-5 are also allowed to bring their own devices to use the public Wi-Fi system at teacher discretion.  K-2 classrooms have multiple IPads for daily student use and grades 3-5 have Chromebooks for each student to use.

Our instructional program is supported by a low student/teacher ratio, full-time nurse, librarian and counselor, specialty teachers for art, music and physical education, speech and language therapy, dyslexia assistance, academic support teachers, special education programs, instructional coaches in both Language Arts/Social Studies and Math/Science, ESL services, and the Challenge Program for gifted and talented learners.

Enrichment is provided to students through writing enrichment events, reading incentive programs, field days, Read, Deed Run for select 4th and 5th grade students and a campus Safety Patrol comprised of 5th grade students who exhibit outstanding leadership qualities.
