• Katy ISD Parents as Observers in Canvas

    What is Canvas?
    Canvas is a learning management system (LMS) that allows teachers to provide instructional support, class calendars, assignments and resources for students in a safe online environment.   Parents​ of Katy ISD students can log into Canvas using their HAC user name and password.  Students access Canvas through MyKaty.

    How will parents access Canvas?
    Your username and password are the same as your Home Access Center (HAC) account. 
    If you are experiencing trouble with your HAC login or password, refer to Parent/Guardian Password Self-Service FAQs.
    Parents should not use their student's log in credentials. 

    How can ​students access Canvas?
    To access Canvas on a SMARTPHONE, TABLET, or COMPUTER, students can visit: katyisd.instructure.com​ or access via MyKaty Cloud.

    To what extent will we use Canvas in class?
    Through Canvas, students will have access to current course calendars, major assignments, events and class resources.

    Access Canvas Using a Browser:
    The link to Canvas is  http://katyisd.instructure.com​ ​​
    Log in using your HAC user name and password.

    Access Canvas using the Canvas Parent app on a mobile device:
    The Canvas Parent app is available in Google Play and the App Store.  
    Windows mobile devices use the browser.

    How to Set Up Notifications
    ​​Parents can configure their Canvas account to send notifications. To learn about Canvas Notifications visit How to Set Up My Notifications as an Observer​.

    How to get Canvas Help:
    Observers and students can enter a Canvas help ticket directly in Canvas.  After you log in, look on the left navigation for Help.  If you cannot log in to Canvas, there is a Help link on the log in page.​

    What is an Observer role in Canvas?
    Observers have limited permissions that allow them to see what is going on in a course and a calendar of assignments. For assistance with Assignments, Test Dates, Quizzes, or other Canvas course content, please contact your child’s teacher.

    What can Parents view in Canvas?
