Managing our online presence is a daily commitment to ensure safety, productivity and efficiency. Educating our students begins very early and Katy ISD works with families to provide our children with tools to do their work and participate online in a safe manner. Instructional Framework

Katy ISD approaches Digital Citizenship as a daily, districtwide commitment centered on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Technology Applications and Health. For students in grades K–8, the district ensures 100% coverage of these standards through the following multi-layered instructional strategy:​​​​​​​

  • Integrated Curriculum: Lessons are embedded directly into core subject unit plans and supported by Learning.com, a state-approved digital literacy platform accessible to students 24/7.
  • Shared Responsibility: All teachers model responsible technology use, while School Counselors and Campus Librarians deliver targeted lessons on online safety, privacy, and cyberbullying.
  • Active Engagement: The district reinforces these skills through Digital Citizenship Week, focusing on critical areas like media literacy, avoiding digital drama, and protecting personal information.
  • Family Partnership: Katy ISD provides Parent Resources including guides for TikTok, YouTube, and Social Media to help families extend safe online habits beyond the classroom.

By combining explicit instruction with real-world application, Katy ISD aims to empower students to be kind, respectful, and critically-thinking digital citizens.
