KATY, TX [January 29, 2025] – Katy ISD’s Navy JROTC Unit based at Mayde Creek High School bested the competition at the 2025 Magnolia High School JROTC Drill Competition held this past weekend, earning top marks on a journey to this year’s state championship meet. The unit earned first place in overall drill, second place in personnel inspection, third place in academics and fifth place in physical training.

“Our cadets have shown amazing dedication this year through training and helping one another improve,” said Commander Elvis Mikel, USN (Ret), Senior Naval Science Instructor. “That effort is displayed each competition, and this win encourages them to keep working toward our goals.”

The unit will compete this weekend at Tomball High School in advance of the Navy JROTC Area 17/18 Texas State Drill, Academics and Athletics Competition hosted at Texas A&M University Feb. 21-22. They will vie for one of two qualifying spots for the 2025 NJROTC Nationals to be held in Pensacola, FL, in April.
