Katy High School FFA Chapter Wins State Championship Title

The Katy High School FFA Poultry team recently won the state championship title for the third time. During the Career Development Events (CDE) State Competition on April 30, the team won the poultry judging contest.  Additionally, 37 Katy ISD FFA teams competed at the state level. Sixteen teams earned Top 10 spots, seven placed in the Top 5 category and ultimately the Katy Tigers FFA took home the coveted championship title.  The team will participate in the National FFA Convention & Expo scheduled for October 26-29 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

“For the past five years, Katy ISD FFA chapters have earned 11 Texas FFA State Championships and three FFA National Championships,”  said David Laird, Katy ISD FFA Events Coordinator.  “Whether it’s at local, state or national competition, students are challenged to develop critical thinking skills, practice teamwork and exercise communication amongst their chapters.  We are very proud of all Katy ISD FFA students,” added Laird.

CDE competition is designed to help its members prepare for a career in agriculture by testing and challenging their technical, leadership, interpersonal and teamwork skills, as well as their knowledge of the subject matter.  The Texas FFA is the nation’s largest state FFA association with a membership of more than 154,000 active FFA members.
