Celebration Marks 25 Years of Creech Elementary’s Legacy, Educational Service
KATY, TX [January 28, 2025] – Hundreds of “Creechers,” Creech Elementary former and current students and staff, attended a reception this evening to celebrate the school’s 25th anniversary and honor those who have made the school a home for students, staff and families.
Guests strolled down memory lane and browsed the school’s history, looking through memorabilia from each of the past 25 years as the Cosmic Chorale honor choir performed the new school song.
“Our school truly is a family, and that starts with the family of our namesake, Betty Sue Creech,” said Sally Gupton, principal of Creech Elementary. “Her children have ensured that our students and staff know about her, and her values are embedded in everything we do.”
Also in attendance were Creech's daughter Susan Stormer; Katy ISD Board President Victor Perez, Vice President Amy Thieme, Secretary Mary Ellen Cuzela, and members Dawn Champagne and Rebecca Fox; and John Paetow, the husband of District namesake and Creech's first principal, Patricia Paetow.
Born to a family of educators, Betty Sue Creech was a beloved member of Katy ISD, beginning her decades-long career in the District in 1967. She taught language arts and reading at Katy Junior High for 28 years and was known for her positive and caring attitude and genuine concern for her students. Creech Elementary School opened its doors in the 2000-2001 school year as the District’s 19th elementary school.
