Seven Lakes High School Earns Second Place in Lone Star Cup

KATY, TX [July 1, 2024] – Seven Lakes High School has clinched second place in this year’s University Interscholastic League (UIL) Lone Star Cup — marking the highest finish ever for a Katy ISD high school.

“Our school culture is built on excellence in academics, athletics and fine arts, and our standing in the Lone Star Cup reflects that attitude,” said Seven Lakes High School Principal Kerri Finnesand. “I am beyond proud of our students and teachers for their many accomplishments throughout last school year.”

Seven Lakes is the top-ranked 6A high school in the greater Houston area and has impressively finished in the top 10 for three consecutive years. In 2015, Seven Lakes achieved its second-highest finish, placing fourth.

The University Interscholastic League (UIL) is an organization responsible for establishing rules and overseeing nearly all athletic, musical, and academic competitions for public primary and secondary schools in Texas.

Annually, the award is given to one school in each classification, honoring the best overall athletic and academic programs. Each school’s composite score includes their standing in the following UIL events: Academics; Baseball; Basketball; Congress; Cross Country; Film; Football; Golf; Marching Band; Mariachi; Military March Band; One Act Play; Robotics BEST; Robotics FIRST; Soccer; Softball; Spirit; Swimming & Diving; Team Tennis; Tennis; Theatrical Design; Track & Field; Volleyball; and Wrestling.

As part of its composite score, Seven Lakes earned the state title in UIL Academics, for the first time in school history, and the boys’ soccer state championship, for the second consecutive year.
