Katy ISD Students Commit to Prestigious Colleges During Fine Arts Signing Day

Katy ISD hosted its annual Fine Arts Signing Day on May 15 in recognition of students who will be continuing a post-secondary education in Visual and Performing Arts.  This year, more than 80 Katy ISD students will be pursuing a fine arts major, 24 have opted to earn a fine arts minor and an additional 131 students are continuing in non-degree fine arts courses or activities.  In total, over $2.7 million in scholarships were awarded to Katy ISD Fine Arts students who will be initiating their careers this fall.

“Congratulations to these students.  The vision of the Fine Arts Department is to Inspire Lifelong Engagement in the Arts," said Damon Archer, Executive Director of Fine Arts at Katy ISD.  “As a district, we know we are supporting that vision when we see the commitment, dedication and the hard work these students have shown in their desire to continue in the arts," added Archer.

Katy ISD Fine Arts students consistently demonstrate the ability to be involved in all areas of education which include athletics, clubs and other after-school activities.  Thirty-one of the students recognized during the annual event are also graduating in the Top 10 of their respective classes, further demonstrating the connection between fine arts and academic achievement.
