KATY, TX [February 21, 2024] – Katy ISD is thrilled to celebrate the remarkable achievements of two outstanding athletes, Garrett McChesney from Jordan High School and Jackson Herman from Cinco Ranch High School, who both won the UIL State Championship titles in wrestling. Their accomplishments not only demonstrate their exceptional skill but also embody the values of determination and sportsmanship that are cherished within our district.
Representing Jordan High School, Garrett McChesney secured the 138-pound weight class state championship by navigating a highly competitive field consisting of competitors from all 6A schools in Texas. His dedication and ability on the mat earned him this prestigious title, bringing pride to his school and community.
Jackson Herman, representing Cinco Ranch High School, emerged victorious in the 132-pound weight class, showcasing his remarkable talent along the way. Jackson's performance reflects the rigorous training and commitment he has demonstrated throughout his wrestling journey.
Coach Michael White from Jordan High School shared his thoughts on Garrett McChesney's accomplishment, stating, "Garrett's relentless work ethic and passion for the sport have propelled him to this remarkable achievement. Garrett is a 3x State Finalist and a 2x State Champion. He also won the Most Outstanding Wrestler Award for the 6A Boys State Wrestling Tournament. He has shown tremendous growth and determination throughout the season, and we couldn't be prouder of his success and the legacy Garrett is leaving at Jordan High School."
Coach Bill Dushane from Cinco Ranch High School commended Jackson Herman's accomplishment, remarking, "It has truly been a pleasure to coach Jackson these past four years. This year was obviously very special. He has been on a mission since the end of last year, and he showed what true dedication can accomplish!”
