  • NUTRITION & FOOD SERVICE 2023-2024 FREE & REDUCED APPLICATION

To determine eligibility for free or reduced-price meals for the 2023-2024 school year, families with students who do not attend a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) campus need to complete a Meal Benefits/Free & Reduced-Price meals application annually. Determined free and reduced-price meal eligibilities are valid only during the current school year and for the first thirty (30) school days of each new school year. More information about free and reduced benefits can be found here. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Child Nutrition Programs Income Eligibility Guidelines can be found here.

  • 2023-2024 MEAL PRICES

Breakfast and lunch prices are based on student eligibility (except at CEP campuses where all meals are free). Meal prices for students have not been raised. Adult meal prices are based on USDA guidance.

The 88th Texas Legislature approved funding as part of the General Appropriations Act so that students who qualify for reduced-price school meals can eat breakfast at no charge for the next two years. Students who meet eligibility requirements for reduced price meals must be offered breakfast at no charge by Texas school districts that participate in the School Breakfast Program.

    Meal prices are as follows:
    Meals Pricing

Customers will need money in their School Café accounts or have cash to purchase a la carte items. Students may charge meals as per the following policy and their household will get an automated negative balance call until the negative balance on the cafeteria account is paid.

  • MEALS CHARGE POLICY

District charge policy allows students without meal money to receive the menu meal choice for a limited time with the expectation the parent will reimburse all meals charged.

    Meals Charge

Parents will be alerted when their child charges for a meal by receiving a courtesy call and/or email through the district automated call out system, if the district parent information is correct and up to date. Parents are responsible for monitoring the amount of money in their child’s account and paying back any borrowed money in a timely manner. If a student owes money on his/her account, he/she will be allowed to purchase snacks and/or a la carte only with cash in hand for that purchase, or once the student’s negative account is paid in full and funds are available to cover additional purchases.

  • SMART TAG ID SYSTEM- 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR

    SmartTag Logo
This school year, a new SMART Tag bus rider ID system will be rolled out across Katy ISD school buses to help monitor the ridership of eligible bus riders. Student identification (ID) cards for eligible riders will include the SMART Tag ID information. Buses will be equipped with a tablet that will read each student’s ID every time they enter and exit their bus. Parents and guardians will also have access to the SMART Tag Parent Web Portal — a cloud-based platform that will enable them to monitor their student’s ridership and bus route. Parents and guardians of eligible bus riders will receive additional information about the Smart Tag ID system via the email address they have on file with the district. • #KatyISDSafety: CAMPUS EXTERIOR DOORS SAFETY SIGNAGE

All campuses' exterior doors have safety signage indicating that exterior doors must remain closed and locked. The purpose of the signage is to reinforce and remind all staff and students to take the extra precaution of ensuring that doors are closed and locked at all times, and to not open a door for anyone trying to enter. All campus exterior doors already have signage directing all visitors to utilize the main entrance for access to campuses and not side entrances.  These stickers should be left in place, with the new yellow sticker above placed inside over this sticker, allowing the external message to remain outward.  All staff and students should avoid allowing anyone without a district identification badge to “tailgating” or following them into a district facility.

  • NATIONAL CHILD ID PROGRAM

During the last legislative session, Senate Bill 2158 was passed, which requires the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to provide parents with an inkless, in-home child fingerprint and DNA identification card for children in grades K-8.  If ever needed, parents may submit this kit to federal, state, tribal, or local law enforcement to help locate and return a missing or trafficked child. On behalf of the State of Texas, Katy ISD has distributed these in-home child identification kits to junior high and elementary campuses. Please understand that there is no obligation to use the kit, but if you choose, this will allow you to have a set of fingerprints and DNA for your child that you can keep at home and turn over to law enforcement in case of an emergency. Please do not return the kits (used or unused) to your child’s school.

  • ELEMENTARY PARENT NOTIFICATION OF PERSONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY INSTRUCTION

Senate Bill 9 (SB 9) of the 87th Texas Legislative Session requires school districts to educate students in the prevention of child abuse, family violence, dating violence, and sex trafficking.  Texas Education Knowledge and Skills for Health Education also includes topics related to abuse and violence prevention. To meet the SB 9 requirement, Katy ISD elementary school counselors will teach the required health TEKS specific to abuse and violence to students in grades 5th grade. These TEKS will be taught during the 4th nine-week grading period for eligible elementary students.

School counselors will teach the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) approved curriculum. Lessons regarding the new health TEKS are age-appropriate, aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), and meet the state's mandated requirements. Parents may review the planned health curriculum and resources on the district website beginning January 3, 2024.

Before a student may receive child abuse, family violence, dating violence, and sex trafficking instruction, Katy ISD is required to obtain written consent from the student's parent/guardian. During the spring semester and at least 14 days prior to the instruction about abuse and violence prevention, the district will share information regarding parent education opportunities, dates of the scheduled lessons, and the procedure to opt-in your student for the scheduled lessons.

Awareness and education on abuse and violence are key to prevention and intervention. The content is intended to facilitate dialogue between children and their parents or guardians about personal safety concerns. It is a priority for Katy ISD to partner with our families and community to create a safety net for our students.

Senate Bill 9 (SB 9) of the 87th Texas Legislative Session requires school districts to educate students in the prevention of child abuse, family violence, dating violence, and sex trafficking.  This instruction must be given at least once in middle school and again in high school. Texas Education Knowledge and Skills for Health Education also includes topics related to abuse and violence prevention. To meet the SB 9 requirement, Katy ISD junior high school counselors will teach the required health TEKS specific to abuse and violence to students in grades 6th through 8th. Instruction of these TEKS will occur during the 5th and 6th six weeks grading period for eligible junior high students.
