Safety & Security Resources
A safe learning environment for all students is the top priority of the Katy Independent School District. Assessment, planning, development of protocols, training and evaluation are key components in ensuring that our students' education will not be disrupted by any safety concerns and that our staff are properly trained to respond to any emergency situation.
2018-19 Campus/Facility Safety & Security
Parent & Visitor Identification on Campuses
All parents and visitors must now present a valid, current, government-issued picture ID outside of the main entrance at all Katy ISD campuses prior to gaining admittance. Each campus is equipped with a controlled access system that includes a camera and an intercom that parents and visitors will need to utilize when presenting their ID for entrance. To gain further access beyond the campus front lobby, individuals will again be required to present their ID to the front desk receptionist in order to be officially logged into the visitor tracking system.
Examples of controlled access systems outside campuses buildings:
Student Identification Badges
Secondary students must now wear their ID badges at all times during school hours, while on District property. Students in grades PK-5 will continue utilizing their badges during lunch and library times. Fourth and fifth-grade students are requested to wear their badges throughout the school day, when practical. At the secondary level, failure to follow the ID badge requirement may be considered a violation of the
Student Code of Conduct.
Campus Door Unlock Times
This school year, campuses are utilizing controlled access systems to unlock main entrance doors at a set time each morning. The standard times that main entrance doors on campuses will open are:
Students who are dropped off before the door unlock time will be unable to enter the building, unless they are there for an official school activity or other exception made by campus administration. Such exceptions are addressed on a campus by campus basis.
Clear Bag Regulation
To ensure visitor safety, along with quick and efficient entry into our event venues, Katy ISD has instituted a Clear Bag Regulation. This will limit the size and type of bag allowed at sporting events, performances and graduations held at Rhodes and Legacy stadiums, as well as the Leonard Merrell Center (LMC), and the Katy ISD Livestock Show and Rodeo at the Agricultural Sciences Center.
While Katy ISD encourages visitors not to bring bags if possible, the following types of bags are permissible:
Clear, plastic, vinyl or PVC bags
Clear, plastic, one-gallon, re-sealable, Ziploc-style bags
Clutch bags approximately the size of a hand ( 4 ½” X 6 ½" )
Medically necessary items
Visitors who bring bags that do not meet the criteria outlined, will not be permitted entrance into the venue.
Permitted Bags
Non-Permitted Bags
Medical Items or Equipment
Visitors with medical items or equipment can enter any main facility entrance to have bags and equipment screened before admittance.

Checking Students Out of School
Katy ISD has established procedures for releasing students from a campus. For details regarding identification, permission and verification for releasing students,
speak to campus administration.
Student Safety
Each campus has a school safety liaison that is responsible from planning, mitigating, and responding to safety and security issues. To report a safety and security concern related to school property or a school-sponsored event, call the specific
campus principal or school safety liaison.
Truancy Enforcement
The truancy enforcement officers work closely with campus administrators to prevent unexcused absences. However, when all interventions fail, criminal charges are brought against the students or parents who intentionally violate the state compulsory attendance statutes. For more information about
compulsory attendance laws, call the Katy ISD Police Department at (281) 237-4000.
