Katy ISD’s marching band programs closed out the fall season on a high note as three District bands, Cinco Ranch High School, Seven Lakes High School and Freeman High School, advanced to the UIL State Marching Band Championships. This marked the first time in District history that three schools earned the opportunity to compete at the state level in the same year.

Meticulous. Calculated. Competitive. These three traits have defined Freeman High School sophomore Andrew Hohmann, who made school history this fall as the first male athlete to qualify for a state championship cross country meet in the Golden Eagles’ inaugural year of varsity competition.

Katy Independent School District has once again earned an “A” rating for Superior Achievement in the Texas Schools Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST), marking the 23rd consecutive year the District has received the state’s highest distinction for financial management and accountability.

The Katy ISD Board of Trustees has approved the compensation plan for the 2025 - 2026 school year, reinforcing the district’s commitment to attracting and retaining top-tier educators and staff. Rising from among the state’s best, Katy Junior High student Rishi Tirumalasetty will represent Katy ISD and Texas at the National Civics Bee^® Championship this November in Washington, D.C., after earning first place at the National Civics Bee^® Texas State Finals this month.

Marking the 10th time to earn the distinction since it launched in 2016, Katy ISD has once again been designated a Transparency Star from the Texas Comptroller’s Public Account Office.

Today, as part of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, the Katy ISD Police Department collected 18 boxes of unused and expired medication, as the department continues its mission to keep the community safe.

Looking to top last year’s strong third-place national finish, Beckendorff Junior High was named champion in the middle school category, or Division B, at the state Science Olympiad competition this month at Texas A&M University.
