History-Making Marching: Three Katy ISD Bands Advanced to the UIL State Championships

Katy ISD’s marching band programs closed out the fall season on a high note as three District bands, Cinco Ranch High School, Seven Lakes High School and Freeman High School, advanced to the UIL State Marching Band Championships. This marked the first time in District history that three schools earned the opportunity to compete at the state level in the same year.

Katy ISD Earns Superior Financial Rating for 23rd Consecutive Year

Katy Independent School District has once again earned an “A” rating for Superior Achievement in the Texas Schools Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST), marking the 23rd consecutive year the District has received the state’s highest distinction for financial management and accountability.

New Water Operations Licensing Program Launches at Raines Academy

New for the 2025-2026 school year, and in partnership with American-owned water industry leader Inframark, Katy ISD is debuting a new Water Operations Licensing Program. The program offers students in-class learning and hands-on fieldwork to prepare certified program graduates for job opportunities in high demand.

Katy ISD Board Approves  2025-26 Compensation Plan

The Katy ISD Board of Trustees has approved the compensation plan for the 2025 - 2026 school year, reinforcing the district’s commitment to attracting and retaining top-tier educators and staff. The plan reflects funding made available through House Bill 2, signed into law by the Texas Governor during the 89th Legislative Session, as well as additional local investments. Together, these resources will support pay increases for teachers and other staff across the district.

Taking Talents to the Next Level

Honoring the extraordinary talents of student artists across Katy ISD, the District’s Fine Arts department recognized more than 150 graduates from the Class of 2025 in annual fine arts campus celebrations.  

Stay Fueled for a Fun Summer

Katy ISD stands ready to help students stay fueled up for summer activities with the Summer Food Service program, providing free breakfast and lunch meals to students, aged 18 or younger, regardless of their enrollment.

 Seven Lakes High School Tops National Science Competition

For the first time in the school’s history, Seven Lakes High School bested tough national competitors to earn the championship title in the high school category at the 41st Annual Science Olympiad National Tournament, held last month at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln.

A Truly Model Citizen

Rising from among the state’s best, Katy Junior High student Rishi Tirumalasetty will represent Katy ISD and Texas at the National Civics Bee® Championship this November in Washington, D.C., after earning first place at the National Civics Bee® Texas State Finals this month.

From Caps & Gowns to Serving with Honor

At a special reception tonight, trustees from the Katy ISD board, along with District and city leaders, celebrated the Class of 2025’s 132 graduating seniors who committed to military service. The outstanding students were accepted to attend the nation’s military academies or serve in one of America’s military branches or national/state guards and reserves.

On Saturday, August 31, before the Houston Astros beat the Kansas City Royals at Minute Maid Park, several Houston area teachers were honored for their commitment to students and STEM education. Among them was Jordan High School’s Divya Kaushal, who teaches algebra and physics, and coaches the school’s Academic Decathlon team.
Katy ISD Parents Can Now Use SMART Tag App To Track Bus Routes
This school year, the SMART Tag web-based Parent Portal will be replaced by the SMART Tag app, which will send push notifications to registered mobile devices and tablets, providing parents with instant updates about delays, route alterations, or emergencies.
Katy ISD Board Member Lance Redmon Earns Master Trustee Designation
At its June 24 Regular Board Meeting, the Katy ISD Board of Trustees honored one of its own, board member Lance Redmon, for earning the Master Trustee designation from the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB). Redmon was among this year’s cohort for the highly selective program that elevates school board members from across the state of Texas.
