Wrestling Royalty: Beltran and Lopez Crowned Girls State Wrestling Champions

Wrestling Royalty: Beltran and Lopez Crowned Girls State Wrestling Champions

KATY, TX [March 03, 2026] – Katy ISD wrestling reached championship heights this season as Katy High School’s Emily Beltran and Mayde Creek High School’s Stephanie Lopez captured UIL state titles, delivering two of the most dominant performances in program history.

Beltran (105 weight class) closed her high school career in remarkable fashion, winning her second consecutive state championship and finishing as the winningest female wrestler in Katy High School history.

After qualifying for state as a sophomore and exiting the tournament 0-2, Beltran recommitted herself to improving every aspect of her craft. She refined her technique, elevated her conditioning and sharpened her focus in the offseason. The results were historic.

Since that sophomore state appearance, Beltran compiled a staggering 97-0 record and earned back-to-back state titles. She graduates with an overall record of 176-28, including 125 wins by pin.

Beltran plans to continue wrestling at the collegiate level while pursuing her goal of becoming a pediatrician.

At Mayde Creek High School, Lopez delivered an equally inspiring championship run.

A standout student-athlete enrolled in Advanced Placement courses ranging from Pre-Calculus to Business Law, Lopez has balanced academic rigor with elite competition. A longtime Jiu-Jitsu competitor, she brought relentless discipline and work ethic to the wrestling mat.

Lopez (115 weight class) finished the season 46-6 and holds a career record of 112-38. As a freshman, she qualified for state as an alternate. As a sophomore, she placed sixth. As a junior, she broke through — defeating a longtime rival after seven previous losses to claim her first state championship.

She also won the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD tournament, which featured approximately 100 teams, and was named Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Spartan Hall of Fame in 2026. Lopez led her team in wins, pins and team points this season and is on pace to set school records for career wins and career team points.

“Emily and Stephanie represent the very best of Katy ISD athletics,” Executive Director of Athletics Lance Carter said. “Their discipline, resilience and commitment to excellence define what it means to compete at the highest level. Winning a state championship is extraordinary, but the character they’ve shown along the way makes us even more proud.”

Both champions have set a new standard for their programs, proving that growth, perseverance and daily commitment can turn setbacks into championships.
