Pre-Kindergarten
Pre-Kindergarten
The Texas Legislature determines eligibility requirements for free, public prekindergarten in Texas. The Legislature established the prekindergarten program with the intent of providing early learning experiences to students who are most in need. The Legislature believed that a high-quality prekindergarten program could mitigate the impact of at-risk characteristics, thereby assisting students in becoming school-ready when they enter kindergarten. Katy ISD offers a prekindergarten program for eligible students who turn 4 years of age on or before September 1st of the school year in which they intend to enroll. The District uses PowerSchool, an online registration process, for new student registration.

Parents must complete the online registration process through Katy ISD's PowerSchool Registration website. Only students whose registration paperwork is complete will be offered the opportunity to be screened for language eligibility / prekindergarten program eligibility.
Please note that due to the limited number of spaces, campus placement is determined by availability at the time of your completed registration process. If the home campus is full, PreK students will be redirected to the closest available campus.
Access Katy ISD's main registration page with detailed instructions for online registration.
Language Assessments
If a language assessment is required, an email will be sent to schedule an appointment for testing. Families will be contacted to ensure that their online registration is received.

Pre-Kindergarten Family Engagement
Katy ISD has developed and implemented a prekindergarten family engagement plan to assist the district in achieving and maintaining high levels of family engagement in prekindergarten and positive family attitudes toward education at the prekindergarten level. This family engagement plan is designed to support the six components of family engagement critical to the development of a high-quality prekindergarten program. More information can be accessed on our Pre-K Family Engagement Page.
