Tax Rate Election

  • What is a Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE or TRE)?
State law requires school districts to seek voter approval to raise their Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Tax Rate when additional revenue is needed to balance its budget, sustain its workforce, or for other identified programs. This type of election is referred to as a Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election, or a TRE. All revenue generated from a potential Katy ISD TRE would be directed toward teacher and staff pay, and to fund new teaching and staff positions to meet current needs and future growth in student enrollment.

The Katy ISD Board of Trustees has yet to call for a Tax Rate Election.  The Board is in the process of reviewing options and community insight.  The Board has until August 22 to call for a November 8, 2022 Tax Rate Election.
