The Katy ISD CTE department invites incoming 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students to participate in the 10th Annual CTE STEM Summer Camp! This engaging, hands-on camp offers students the opportunity to explore exciting STEM activities across a variety of disciplines.
Students may choose from two sessions:

Each session is limited to 128 students, and spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Class of 2025 Senior Survey is scheduled to open on Friday, January 31, 2024. The survey is designed to capture information from graduating seniors regarding post-secondary opportunities, military service and scholarships. Students will submit their final transcript request along with other important information used for campus and district reporting. Check with your high school campus regarding the specific deadline.
The Student Transfer Application for the 2025-2026 school year will open in phases. See the timeline below. The online application can be found on the Katy ISD Student Transfer webpage.
All students currently on an approved transfer must reapply, except for children of employees who meet the criteria for automatic renewal. Failure to submit a transfer application by the allotted time frame will revert your child(ren)’s campus assignment to their home-zoned campus. Late applications will not be accepted.

PARENT-DEFINED GRADE NOTIFICATIONS
Katy ISD Parents and/or Guardians can view their child’s grades in the Home Access Center at any time. On the Grades page, you can access your child’s most recent progress report (IPR) and report card grades. On the Classwork page, you can setup personalized alerts for your child’s class averages. Based on the parent-defined percentage (%), you will receive an alert when your child’s average falls below or rises above a certain threshold. PERFORMANCE MONITORING
All Katy ISD parents/guardians are encouraged to use the Home Access Center (HAC) to review their child’s academic progress on a routine basis. As the 2024-2025 school year comes to close, take time to review all current grades, report cards, and teacher comments and/or recommendations. If your child is in need of support, speak with your child to identify their greatest area(s) of need, communicate with your child’s teacher, and, if needed, review summer learning opportunities. If you need assistance logging in to HAC, this guide will walk you through the steps.
PARENT NOTIFICATION OF HEALTH EDUCATION INSTRUCTION
In accordance with Senate Bill 9 House Bill 1525 and the Texas Education Code, Sec. 28.004, Katy ISD is required to inform the parent/guardian of each student enrolled in the district of the intent to offer Human Sexuality Instruction (HSI) and instruction on Abuse and Violence Prevention (AVP).
Under Texas statute, school districts must obtain written parental consent prior to providing instruction on these lessons. In accordance with state law, parents and guardians have the right to review all curriculum materials used for instruction on human sexuality and abuse and violence prevention.
At least 14 days prior to the instruction, the district will share information regarding how to review the curriculum, dates of the scheduled lessons, and the procedure to give written parental consent. Students who do not have parental consent will be provided alternative lessons and will not be subject to disciplinary or academic penalties.
The Katy ISD curriculum has been adopted by the Board of Trustees with the recommendation of the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC). All lessons are aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and meet the state's mandated requirements. Texas Health Skills for Middle School and Texas Health Skills for High School by Goodheart-Wilcox and curated resources were used to develop the Katy ISD approved curriculum materials. The content of the curriculum and the timeframe for instruction are as follows:
Elementary School (Grades 4-5) Human Growth and Development Instruction: Human growth and development instruction will be provided in physical education class during the spring. Students will learn about developmental changes that are a normal part of growing up.
Junior High (Grades 6-8) Human Growth and Development Instruction: Students enrolled in PE or Athletics will receive instruction via a self-paced canvas course on human growth and development, including puberty, personal hygiene, abuse prevention, and disease prevention during the sixth six weeks.
High School Students enrolled in high school health will receive instruction via a self-paced canvas course on human sexuality and abuse and violence prevention during the sixth six weeks for students earning credit in the spring. Topics covered include puberty and adolescent development, personal hygiene, dating violence, sex trafficking, abstinence, and prevention of communicable and non-communicable diseases.

In accordance with State guidelines, Senate Bill 27, a food and the Texas Education Code, Section 38.209, an allergy management plan has been developed and implemented by the District that includes general procedures to limit the risk posed to students with food allergies, and specific procedures to address the care of students with a diagnosed food allergy who are at risk for anaphylaxis.
Each school campus will be supplied with the required amount of epinephrine auto injectors for pediatric and adult dosages, approved by an advising physician, to be used for cases of suspected anaphylaxis.
Katy ISD will ensure that a sufficient number of school personnel at each campus are trained to administer epinephrine. Currently, this program is being funded by an outside source and if this funding source were to cease, the implementation of stock epinephrine auto-injectors will be re-evaluated by Katy ISD.
Parents of a student with known, life-threatening anaphylaxis should provide the school with all necessary medications for implementing student specific orders on an annual basis. This guideline is not intended to replace student specific orders or parent-provided individual medication.

Katy ISD’s Partners in Education invites the community to bring hope to families in need this holiday season. The organization’s biannual Food for Families campaign allows the community to bring joy into the homes of students and their families. Katy ISD campuses identify students for the program while Partners in Education collects community and corporate donations. Grocery gift cards and a note of support from the Katy ISD community are then delivered to each student by a campus staff member.
Contributions in any amount are welcome and appreciated. Those interested in helping these Katy ISD families experience a happier holiday season should donate by December 9. Donations are accepted online, through Katy ISD Pay N’ Go, or via check, remitted to “Katy ISD Food for Families” and mailed to Partners in Education, Katy ISD ESC, 6301 South Stadium Lane, Katy 77494.
Digital citizenship is the responsible use of technology and the Internet. Lessons are taught about specific topics such as: respectful communication when online, balanced and healthy use of technology, cyberbullying awareness, online privacy, and analyzing different forms of media for accuracy. In accordance with regulation 40 CFR 763.93 and Katy ISD Board Policy CKA (LEGAL), notice of the district's pest and asbestos management plan must be posted for all staff, students and parents/guardians. If you are new to Katy ISD or would like to review the Asbestos Management Plan or Pest Management Plan, you can find them in the Environmental & Safety section of the Maintenance and Operations Website.
DISTRICT PEST MANAGEMENT PLAN The district is required to follow integrated pest management (IPM) procedures to control pests on school grounds. Although the district strives to use the safest and most effective methods to manage pests, including a variety of non-chemical control measures, pesticide use is sometimes necessary to maintain adequate pest control and ensure a safe, pest-free school environment.
All pesticides used are registered for their intended use by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and are applied only by certified pesticide applicators. Except in an emergency, signs will be posted 48 hours before indoor application. All outdoor applications will be posted at the time of treatment, and signs will remain until it is safe to enter the area. Parents who have further questions or who want to be notified prior to pesticide application inside their child’s school assignment area may contact the Director of Maintenance at 281-396-2519 or the Environmental Supervisor at 281-396-2533.
ASBESTOS MANAGEMENT PLAN The Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA), signed into law in 1986, established the framework for a regulation which requires elementary and secondary schools to identify asbestos-containing materials in schools, institute programs aimed at minimizing the risk of exposure, and re-inspect those materials at least every three years. Katy ISD conducts biannual inspections of asbestos-containing materials and ensures compliance with the required three-year re-inspections.
The district is committed to providing a safe environment for workers, building occupants, students, parents, and legal guardians. An Asbestos Management Plan has been developed to address all Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) and Texas Asbestos Health Protection Act (TAHPA) requirements. A copy of the district’s Asbestos Management Plan is available at each campus for review. The plan contains information on friable and/or non-friable asbestos-containing building materials (ACBM). 40 CFR 763.93 and Katy ISD Board Policy CKA (LEGAL). Katy ISD STAAR testing calendar will offer campuses a 3-day testing window to administer state testing for specific content areas. One day is designated for STAAR Science (5/8), Social Studies (8), and Algebra I at the high school level. Campuses will choose their testing dates and grade levels based on the Katy ISD testing windows, which are aligned with the state testing windows. Specific STAAR testing days by campus will be posted to Katy ISD Research, Assessment, and Accountability website in mid-fall.
For the 2024-2025 school year, STAAR testing will be administered online. Only students who qualify for a special administration will be allowed to be tested using a paper format.
District charge policy allows students without meal money to receive the menu meal choice for a limited time with the expectation the parent will reimburse all meals charged.
Parents will be alerted when their child charges for a meal by receiving a courtesy call and/or email through the district automated call out system, if the district parent information is correct and up to date. Parents are responsible for monitoring the amount of money in their child’s account and paying back any borrowed money in a timely manner. If a student owes money on his/her account, he/she will be allowed to purchase snacks and/or a la carte only with cash in hand for that purchase, or once the student’s negative account is paid in full and funds are available to cover additional purchases.

REMINDER: Every student ID badge includes a unique student ID number that is used to check out library books and textbooks, to purchase food items in the cafeteria, to permit passage to certain club meetings, and to provide easy identification of students in common areas of the school. Secondary students must wear their ID badges at all times during school hours, while on school property. If a student loses the ID, a replacement must be purchased promptly from the designated school office/location. Failure to follow these procedures may be considered a violation of the Discipline Management Plan and Student Code of Conduct. If you are looking for your student’s Katy ID, their ID and other pertinent information can be found on the student’s ID badge. It is located under the bar code and begins with an alpha character. Additionally, the Katy ID can also be found by logging into Home Access Center (HAC). Click on the Registration icon – Demographic Tab and locate the field called Student ID.
Katy ISD will offer Electrocardiogram or (ECG) services with our physicals. This is volunteer and not required to participate in UIL Activities. The Seven Lakes High School band program was awarded the John Philip Sousa Foundation Sudler Shield Award for Marching Excellence this past December. The Sudler Shield Award is presented each year to outstanding high school marching bands that have demonstrated the highest standards of musical performance, marching techniques and visual excellence over a period of years. Out of more than 35,000 public and private high schools in the U.S. and others across the globe, only 104 band programs have received the Sudler Shield since its inception in 1987. There will be a formal award ceremony on May 7th, in the Seven Lakes High School Performing Arts Center, starting at 6:30pm. Members of the John Philip Sousa Foundation will be in attendance to present the Seven Lakes Band this prestigious award, recognizing the staff, students, administration and parents for this award of excellence.

We are gearing up for a summer filled with wonderful experiences for the students in Katy ISD. Please save the date for summer camps that will be offered. Registration opens April 1, 2025.
Students who unintentionally bring to school a prohibited item, which is not illegal, may turn in the item to a staff member without disciplinary consequences if this is done before the item is discovered or reported by a staff member or another student. This option applies only to the first time the prohibited item is accidentally brought to school. The second time the prohibited item is brought to school, the item will be confiscated, and the student disciplined according to the type of item brought to school. Parents/ guardians may pick up confiscated items which are not illegal within two school days. Items not picked up within two school days will be discarded. Illegal items and items designated as evidence will be turned over to the Katy ISD police.

Fireworks of any kind, smoke or stink bombs, or any other pyrotechnic device
A razor, box cutter, chain or any other object used in a way that threatens or inflicts bodily injury to another person

House Bill 3, (88th Texas Legislature) requires the Texas School Safety Center, in collaboration with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), to provide school districts information and other resources regarding the safe storage of firearms, including information on section 46.13 of the Texas Penal Code, for distribution to parents/guardians and community.

SpeakUP is the anonymous reporting platform that students, parents, and patrons can use to report safety concerns, bullying, threats of violence, drug use, as well as any other concerns related to student physical or mental health. SpeakUP is available for download in the Apple Store or Google Play. It is also available on all District websites, computers and District devices. SpeakUP provides an opportunity for the Katy ISD community to anonymously provide valuable information to District administration and law enforcement that will help keep our students safe.
All campuses exterior doors have safety signage indicating that exterior doors must remain closed and locked. The purpose of the signage is to reinforce and remind all staff and students to take the extra precaution of ensuring that doors are closed and locked at all times, and to not open a door for anyone trying to enter. All campus exterior doors already have signage directing all visitors to utilize the main entrance for access to campuses and not side entrances. These stickers should be left in place, with the new yellow sticker above placed inside over this sticker, allowing the external message to remain outward. All staff and students should avoid allowing anyone without a district identification badge from “tailgating” or following them into a district facility.
Child Find is a process designed to identify, locate, and evaluate individuals from birth to 21 years of age who may need special education and related services. During the last legislative session, Senate Bill 2158 was passed, which requires the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to provide parents with an inkless, in-home child fingerprint and DNA identification card for children in grades K-8. If ever needed, parents may submit this kit to federal, state, tribal, or local law enforcement to help locate and return a missing or trafficked child. On behalf of the State of Texas, Katy ISD has distributed these in-home child identification kits to junior high and elementary campuses. Please understand that there is no obligation to use the kit, but if you choose, this will allow you to have a set of fingerprints and DNA for your child that you can keep at home and turn over to law enforcement in case of an emergency. Please do not return the kits (used or unused) to your child’s school.
CREDIT BY EXAM (CBE) TESTING-KINDERGARTEN ACCELERATION
Katy ISD offers Credit by Examination for acceleration at every grade level and subject area offered in accordance with the Texas State Board of Education rules. A student is allowed to advance one grade level or one course per subject per academic year. Katy ISD offers four Credit by Examination testing windows throughout the year. Credit By Exam test results are entered in the Home Access Center (HAC) under the testing tab within six weeks of testing.

English Language Arts (ELA) classroom libraries offer independent reading material that supports the English Language Arts Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Parental consent is required for secondary students to check out books from their ELA classroom library. Parents may provide consent via the KISD Parent Option Portal located in MyKaty cloud. If parents do not provide consent via the KISD Parent Option Portal, their secondary student will be unable to check out books from their ELA classroom library. This is in addition to the Library Book Notification. Visit the MyKaty cloud for a brief video instruction on accessing the KISD Parent Option Portal.
The Katy Advanced Program (KAP) provides students with an opportunity to engage in above-grade level coursework in the areas of math, science, language arts, and social studies. KAP courses are available beginning in 6th grade and are open to all students. Every student is encouraged to take at least one advanced level course in an area of interest. Starting in May 2025, standard paper testing will be discontinued for 28 AP Exams - these exams will move to the Bluebook digital testing application, which is the same process utilized for SAT School Day and PSAT/NMSQT®. The College Board is accelerating the transition to digital testing to ensure the continued security of AP Exams. Parents and students can access College Board website for digital exam details. The Texas First Program recognizes high-achieving students. Eligible students can graduate early with the Distinguished Level of Achievement and receive a scholarship. Students can accelerate their postsecondary path and earn up to a year in scholarship dollars to attend any Texas public institution of higher education, including colleges, universities, and technical colleges. Information regarding the program is provided on the Texas First Program website and the Katy ISD website.

Katy ISD offers a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Student Training and Licensing Program to rising 12th-grade students turning 18 and interested in obtaining a CDL. The Raines Academy CDL program provides training and licensing for Class A (no additional endorsement) or Class A with a Class B Passenger/School Bus Endorsement. Students attending Raines Academy may take advantage of the flexible school day scheduling to also obtain employment with Katy ISD as a temporary student worker in either the Communications, Technology or Operations departments. Students taking advantage of this paid, employment opportunity will have access to transportation to their work location, a work schedule that is designed around their class schedule and the skills and experience to be a top candidate for full-time employment with Katy ISD following high school graduation. Parents of Bus Riders: If your student is a bus rider, look forthe white route number on the side of the bus when tracking their bus this school year! And make sure to download the Smart tag™ app from your mobile Google Play or App Store in Apple! The Smart Tag app allows parents to set their preferred notifications, including when their child’s bus is expected to arrive. You can also see when and where your student boards and exits the bus.
Recommendations by district personnel to purchase books new to the Katy ISD circulation are available for public review and comment prior to purchase. HOME ACCESS CENTER – PARENT-DEFINED GRADE NOTIFICATIONS
Katy ISD Parents and/or Guardians can view their child’s grades in the Home Access Center at any time. On the Grades page, you can access your child’s most recent progress report (IPR) and report card grades. On the Classwork page, you can setup personalized alerts for your child’s class averages. Based on the parent-defined percentage (%), you will receive an alert when your child’s average falls below or rises above a certain threshold. In alignment with Board policy EFB Local - Library Materials the District emails all parents/guardians on file each time their student checks out a library book. Parents may opt-out of these notifications by accessing the KISD Parent Option Portal in MyKaty cloud. Visit the MyKaty cloud for a brief video instruction on accessing the KISD Parent Option Portal.

SOCIAL SECURITY SUPPLEMENTAL SECURITY INCOME (SSI) PROGRAM
SSI provides monthly cash payments to help meet the basic needs of children who have a physical or mental disability. Children under age 18 can get SSI if they meet Social Security’s definition of disability for children and there is limited income and resources in the household. Katy ISD requires all volunteers serving on or off-campus during or after the instructional day to register with the district through its Raptor security system. Katy ISD’s Raptor safety protocol will require volunteers to register (or re-register) annually, thus creating a new volunteer profile each year.
The District's Raptor Volunteer Initiative provides an additional layer of protection for our Katy ISD students, staff, volunteers, and visitors, prioritizing the safety and security of our entire Katy ISD family. Once registered and approved, individual volunteers can submit and track hours via their volunteer profile for every Katy ISD campus at which they volunteer. The system also provides quick and easy submission of individual off-campus volunteer hours.
In partnership with the Texas Education Agency (TEA), Crime Stoppers Houston hosts the webinar series: S.A.V.E. (Safety Awareness. Valuable Education). This series serves as a platform for discussion on many topics that concern the safety of our schools and community.
