District Devices

We are having trouble with the Device that was checked out to us from the District. What can we do?

We have put together a number of help videos and resources to assist with checked out devices, both Chromebooks and iPads. If you are having trouble connecting to Wi-Fi, getting past Content Keeper, accessing iPad Apps, accessing MyKaty Cloud, etc. review the Help Videos for Parents.


I don't see the Zoom app on my student's Chromebook that we checked out from their school.

We were experiencing a problem with the Zoom app, as Zoom made a recent change. This issue has now been addressed, and you should be able to locate the Zoom app on the Chromebook by following the steps listed in the Knowledge Base article titled Zoom Instructions for Students.


I can't find the Zoom app on my student's iPad that we checked out from their school.

Is the Chromebook that we checked out up to date?

To check for the latest Chromebook updates, visit Update Google Chrome.


How does my student access MyKaty Cloud on an iPad?

It is necessary to use an app called Lenovo Unified Workspace. For additional details on installing and using this app, review this help article.


What is Webpass? Why do I need to enable it and how do I enable the extension?

In order to access the resources held within MyKaty Cloud, it is strongly recommended that students use a Google Chrome browser and MUST have the Webpass extension enabled. Having Webpass enabled allows the student to access all resources within MyKatyCloud through a single sign on process, meaning they only have to sign in once.

We have more than one student sharing a device, and sometimes they don't get logged into their resources correctly.

If you have more than one student sharing a computer/laptop/iPad for their schoolwork, and are experiencing problems with it logging the next user into the previous user's account, use this help article  on the Knowledge Base to address the issue.


What devices will be checked out?  

As a general rule of thumb, devices given out will be: 

  • Elementary: iPads
  • Secondary: Chromebooks

Home Access Center (HAC)

My Home Access Center is in the wrong language, how do I change that?

You will need to contact the Campus Registrar to have the language changed.

 

I have more than one HAC ID, or I don't see all of my students listed in the Home Access Center (HAC).

This can happen when registering students at different campuses - parents are accidentally assigned more than 1 HAC ID. To have the HAC IDs merged so you can see all students using a single sign in, enter your request/scenario on this form: http://katyisd.org/Parent-Student-Tech-Support/Pages/default.aspx

Knowledge Base

I heard there is a place for Parents and Students to search for Katy ISD Help articles, where is it?

Canvas

How do I access Canvas as a Parent?

Parents can access Canvas as Observers. To learn more, review the Parents as Observers in Canvas instructions page.


My student needs to edit an assignment in Canvas while using an iPad, how do they do that?

The student must be using the Canvas Student app to make edits. This app is already installed on all Katy ISD district issued iPads. If you are using a personal iPad, you will need to download the app from the App Store.

Connecting to School from Home

I want to purchase a device for my student, what should I get?

What is MyKaty Cloud and why does my student need to access it?

MyKaty Cloud is the location for students to begin accessing their textbooks and Katy ISD applications. URL: https://mykaty.katyisd.org/

  2. Enable WebPass - this is an important step to ensure you are authenticated to other Katy ISD applications.

What can I do to get internet at my house?

Katy ISD has compiled a list of resources for students, parents and staff for Low Cost Internet options.

How do I clear the Cache/Browser History on my device?

If you are experiencing issues accessing online resources, a common solution is to clear the cache and browser history of your web browser. For steps on how to clear your cache/browser history, use this help article on the Knowledge Base.

Registration and Snapcodes

What are snapcodes and where do I find it for my student?  

Snapcodes are a tool that makes updating and registering a student easier as an online process. This allows parents to update and sign all documents in one place. IMPORTANT NOTE: Snapcodes have nothing to do with logging into Katy ISD applications, they are ONLY used for enrolling your student and updating their enrollment information.

What will my child’s schedule look like for KVA or Intermittent Online classes? 


What are the steps/things that MUST be done before the first day of school?

Students should...

  • Know their Katy ISD Username and password.

  • Sign in to MyKaty Cloud (https://mykaty.katyisd.org), and ensure they have Webpass enabled.

  • Locate Canvas (under the Elementary or Secondary tab on MyKaty Cloud). 

  • Go to the Home Access Center (HAC) and view their schedule.

    • PreK - 4th grade students will need their parent/guardian to login to the HAC to see their schedule.

    • 5th - 12th grade students can login to the HAC using their student login credentials.

  • All classes that appear on the student's schedule in HAC should appear on their Canvas dashboard. 

Other

How can I get my student's ID badge, and are they going to hand out physical ID badges?

Students are able to login to MyKaty Cloud and search for their ID – they can print out a temporary card there.  For information on how a student can print an ID badge from MyKaty Cloud visit Student ID Badge Application.

 

Public Wi-Fi

Katy ISD campuses offer a public, filtered Wi-Fi connection accessible by students, staff, and visitors to the campus. Public Wi-Fi enables students with any device to connect to a safe, secure learning environment so that Internet access can support classroom learning objectives.  The Internet is filtered with the same tools as campus desktops and laptops allowing access to a vast array of digital content. Plus, you're simply plugged in, wherever you are on campus.  From the library to the classroom, students are always connected to valuable learning resources. ​
