Dr. Sarah J. Martin
Director of Career and Technical Education
Dr. Sarah J. Martin has been involved in Career and Technical Education (CTE) for 35 years. Serving first as a Marketing Education teacher in VA and TX schools. Dr. Martin moved into CTE administration in 1998 working as a Career Connections Specialist for the Maryland State Department of Education. Serving as a liaison between the State Department and the local education agencies, she provided guidance and support to the Career and Technical Education directors across the state; specializing in Perkins legislation and state categorical funding.
In 2000, Dr. Martin returned to VA to serve as the CTE Administrative Coordinator for Virginia Beach City Public Schools. Over the course of her tenure, Dr. Martin was actively engaged in the VA Association of Career and Technical Education Administrators (VACTEA) professional organization, serving on the executive board for over 5 years. As President-elect, she created the New Administrators conference to provide support to new CTE directors across the state. This conference continues today and is supported by the VA Department of Education and VACTEA.
Dr. Martin has served on two writing teams for State Perkins Plans for reauthorization, Maryland State Plan in 2000 and Virginia State Plan in 2006. She is a national presenter, having presented at the Association for Career and Technical Education and the marketing and business education conference Conclave. The focus of the presentations were on the skills gap between employer expectations and skill sets possessed by employees and presenting a successful model for implementing industry credentialing at the secondary education level.
Dr. Martin is currently the CTE director for Katy ISD.
