Katy ISD Weather Notification: Update #3 – Katy ISD Open, Tuesday, Jan. 27

Dear Katy ISD Parents/Guardians and Staff,  

All Katy ISD campuses and school facilities will be open and operating on a regular schedule on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Due to weather-related vendor delivery delays, some campus cafeterias may have temporary menu adjustments. Other updates regarding athletics, fine arts, or other activities will be shared by coaches, directors and sponsors. 

Also, please note that morning temperatures are expected to be low. Families are encouraged to dress students warmly and appropriately for cold conditions, especially for bus stops and outdoor arrival times.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as the impacts of weather conditions were assessed for a safe reopening.

Katy ISD Weather Notification: Update #2 – Monitoring

January 25, 2026  

Dear Katy ISD Parents/Guardians and Staff, 

The District continues to closely monitor weather conditions and hazardous roadway safety in coordination with local officials. Our Maintenance and Operations teams are actively assessing campuses and facilities, addressing any needs and preparing buildings to ensure a safe return for students and staff. 

The District remains closed for Monday, Jan. 26. At this time, a decision regarding school operations for Tuesday, Jan. 27 has not yet been made. An update on Tuesday’s operations will be provided by 3 p.m. on Monday. 

Program sponsors, coaches and directors will continue to communicate directly with students and families regarding any changes to before- and after-school activities. 

As always, the safety of our students, families and staff remains our top priority when making weather-related decisions. We encourage parents, staff and community members to continue monitoring Katy ISD’s official communication channels for updates related to school operations, event cancellations or other changes.

Weather Notification: Update #1 – Katy ISD Closed

Dear Katy ISD Parents/Guardians and Staff, 

Please be advised that all Katy ISD campuses and school facilities will be closed on Monday, Jan. 26 due to anticipated hazardous weather conditions across the area. Program sponsors, coaches and directors will communicate directly with their students and athletes regarding schedule changes to before- and after-school activities. An update regarding school operations and instruction for Tuesday (Jan. 27) will be provided on Sunday. 

Non-essential employees should not report to work, while essential employees (i.e., operations, maintenance and law enforcement staff) will be contacted by their supervisors if they need to report during regular hours. 

The safety of our students, families and staff remains the district’s top priority when making weather-related decisions. Factors considered in school closure decisions include: 

  • The impact of projected weather conditions on roadways and the safety of school buses and pedestrians, as assessed by district, local and county officials. 

  • Anticipated teacher and staff absences due to weather-related challenges. 

  • Potential disruptions to power supply that could affect the operation of school facilities. 

We encourage all parents, staff and community members to monitor Katy ISD’s official communication channels for updates on school openings and closures, event cancellations, or other changes.

Katy ISD Weather Notification: Monitoring

January 21, 2026 

Dear Katy ISD Parents/Guardians and Staff, 

Weather forecasts indicate a potential for inclement weather in the Katy area over the coming days. Katy ISD is actively monitoring evolving conditions and coordinating with local agencies to ensure appropriate precautions are in place to protect students, staff and visitors. 

At this time, the district plans to proceed with regular instructional days for the remainder of this week. All before- and after-school activities will also proceed as scheduled through Friday evening. Any changes to student program practices or events due to inclement weather expected on Saturday or over the weekend will be communicated directly by coaches and directors.

Factors considered in District weather decisions include: 

  • The impact of projected weather conditionson roadways and the safety of school buses and pedestrians, as assessed by the District and local and county officials.
  • Anticipated teacher and staff absences due to weather-related challenges.
  • Potential disruptions to power supply that could affect school and facility operations.

The District will continue to provide updates regarding school operations over the next few days as information becomes available.
