Paraprofessional Requirements

 

Katy ISD has around 80 campuses with hundreds of paraprofessionals serving those students. All paraprofessionals are required to have some college hours, a high school diploma or a GED. 

Paraprofessionals serving special education students, that are not on a Title I campus, must also meet one of the below qualifications:

  • Have completed 15 semester hours of college coursework; or
  • Have met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment:
    • Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing and mathematics; or
    • Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, reading readiness, writing readiness and mathematics readiness, as appropriate.

Paraprofessional positions serving any student at a Title I campus must also meet one of the below qualifications: ( Title I Campus List)

  • Have completed 48 semester hours of college coursework; or
  • Have obtained an associate's (or higher) degree; or
  • Have met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment:
    • Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing and mathematics; or
    • Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, reading readiness, writing readiness and mathematics readiness, as appropriate.

ParaPro Assessment

Katy ISD utilizes the ParaPro Assessment as the local academic assessment. You currently have three options in our area to take the assessment. The details for each test location are listed below. You will need to pass the Para Pro Assessment with a score of 464 or higher.

Taking the ParaPro Assessment (Katy ISD)

This test location is ONLY for Katy ISD applicants that are being considered for hire within Katy ISD. A principal or coordinator must have contacted you in order to register for this location. You must sign up at least one week prior to your chosen test date. 

  • How to Register
    • After you click on the registration link, you will see "A+ Pay N' Go" at the top of your screen. There will be an error message in the middle, but the website is working correctly. You have to click the Para Pro Assessment link on the left side of the website. Click here to register and pay
    • The available test dates are on the drop down menu at the bottom of the registration website.
    • In order to checkout, you will have to create a Katy ISD Pay N' Go account.
    • Cost - $67
    • Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the test time.
