Employee Complaints / Grievances
General Information
Board Policy DGBA (LOCAL) provides a formal process for employees to raise and resolve work-related concerns in a fair and orderly manner. Katy ISD encourages employees to try to resolve issues informally with their supervisor whenever possible. Before filing a formal grievance, employees are strongly advised to consult with Dr. Heather Bowman, Employee Relations Officer.
This policy applies to complaints regarding:
- A decision or action affecting your employment
- Workplace conditions or treatment
- A violation or misapplication of Board policy or administrative regulation
Complaint Process
Informal Resolution (Optional but Recommended)
Many concerns can be resolved quickly through informal discussion. Employees are encouraged to raise their concerns with their supervisor or another appropriate administrator as a first step. In contrast, the formal grievance process follows specific timelines and is not immediate. While informal resolution is encouraged, it does not extend or alter any timelines of the grievance process.
Formal Process
If an issue cannot be resolved informally, you may submit a formal written complaint using the district’s grievance form within 15 business days of when you first became aware of the issue. Any District employee named in the grievance will be notified and given an opportunity to provide a written response, which will become part of the official complaint record.
