Global Finals Tournament in Kansas City, MO on May 21-24, the most in Katy ISD history.  This year's event will be an in-person celebration after two long years of hosting competitions virtually. category of Instant Challenge called “Extreme," which takes problem-solving to the ultimate level.  The team crushed the competition and brought home top honors.  </p><p>“To see this many Katy ISD teams headed to the global level is a true inspiration," said Dr. Joan Otten, Director of Gifted & Talented/Advanced Academics Department.  “These types of tournaments motivate and equip our students to become the next generation of innovators and leaders," added Otten.  <br></p><p>Destination Imagination is a school-based program devoted to helping students gain practical life skills through interesting, entertaining and mind-boggling challenges.  The program is created and guided by parents, educators and community volunteers who support the art and skill of creative problem-solving.  DI seeks to develop the creativity, innovation and imagination of students while they work as team members to collaborate, stay within a budget and meet deadlines.<br></p><p><a Katy ISD Adjusts Elementary Bell Schedule for 2022-2023 School Yearhttps://www.katyisd.org/Lists/latestnews/DispForm.aspx?ID=1607Katy ISD Adjusts Elementary Bell Schedule for 2022-2023 School Year2022-04-01T15:12:46Z<div class="ExternalClass6335C140AA9F41A5BF47F04F430375C5"><p><span style="text-align:justify;">When the 2022-2023 school year begins, Katy ISD elementary students will see a slight adjustment to their bell schedule.  The adjusted elementary bell schedule will help alleviate transportation challenges related to route times and driver shortages.  Effective August 2022, elementary campuses will fall under one of three tiers: </span><br></p><ul style="list-style-type:disc;"><li>Tier A (7:50 a.m. – 3 p.m.)</li><li>Mid-Tier (8:10 a.m. – 3:20 p.m.) </li><li>Tier B (8:30 a.m. – 3:40 p.m.)</li></ul><p style="text-align:justify;">“In an effort to maximize bus routes, minimize service delays and accommodate for our current driver shortage, the adjusted elementary bell schedule is a mechanism to assist the Transportation Department in improving the services it offers eligible bus riders," said Ted Vierling, Chief of Operations at Katy ISD.  “Additionally, this allows the District to better utilize its drivers," added Vierling. </p><p>The bell schedule adjustment <span style="text-decoration:underline;">only</span> affects elementary campuses.  There will be no change to the 2022-2023 Katy ISD junior high and high school bell schedules. Katy ISD Recognizes Enrollment of 90,000th Studenthttps://www.katyisd.org/Lists/latestnews/DispForm.aspx?ID=1598Katy ISD Recognizes Enrollment of 90,000th Student2022-03-04T21:57:17Z<div class="ExternalClassD947E1AEF9894BD7B5F771B27A67F69D"><p><span style="text-align:justify;">This week, Katy ISD reached a monumental milestone with the enrollment of its 90,000</span><sup style="text-align:justify;">th</sup><span style="text-align:justify;"> student. The student, Mayde Creek Elementary first-grader Jenna Mohamed Elshantaf, was surprised in her classroom by her family, Superintendent Ken Gregorski and other District officials. this year's Destination Imagination (DI) Gulf Coast Regional Tournament, and in the end, students earned several trophies, medals, as well as some bragging rights.  Thirteen teams will now advance to the Lone Star Finals State Tournament to be held on March 25-26.  Elementary, junior high and high school learners from Katy ISD, Fort Bend ISD, Cy-Fair ISD, Lamar Consolidated ISD and several private compete in an advanced Instant Challenge called “Extreme." The Seven Lakes High School team known as “Frenzied Revelers" won 2nd place and will advance to state as well. This year, the competition will take place in Arlington, Texas.  Hundreds of teams will compete during the event in hopes of earning awards and advancing to the final Global Level Tournament in May to be held in Kansas City, Missouri.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">​DI is an extraordinary non-profit organization that provides educational programs for students to learn and experience creativity and teamwork. In preparation for a tournament, students choose a “Challenge," prepare a solution to the challenge, and present their solution in a highly creative skit. Additionally, all teams participate in an “Instant Challenge," which is a test of their improvisational skills. Their final score is a combination of the two events. Yesterday evening, the District and local event sponsors, hosted a brick unveiling ceremony where hundreds gathered to recognize their remarkable accomplishments.</span><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">“We honor the achievements of these outstanding educators who have made significant contributions to our schools, students and families as they navigated COVID-19, the deep freeze and other challenges these past two years," said Dr. Ken Gregorski, Superintendent of Schools at Katy ISD.  “These teachers have shown phenomenal fortitude, perseverance, creativity, adaptability and leadership as well a sense of strength and stability in these tumultuous times," added Gregorski.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The brick unveiling event honors not only Katy ISD Campus Teachers of the Year, but the Katy community as well. The bricks at Katy Heritage Park serve as a permanent tribute to the decades of unparalleled learning experiences provided across more than 70 Katy ISD campuses.  </p><p style="text-align:justify;">Venus Construction, Modern Pest Control and the Katy Heritage Society sponsored the occasion and provided the space for the bricklaying.
