Katy ISD Hosts 35th Annual Folk Life Festival at Newly Renovated FacilityKaty ISD Hosts 35th Annual Folk Life Festival at Newly Renovated Facility2021-05-12T17:19:34Z<div class="ExternalClass0C8B86FD2426482AA874E8449B1866F9"><p><span style="text-align:justify;">Ever wondered what life was like in Texas during the late 1800's?</span><span style="text-align:justify;">  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">At the upcoming 35</span><sup style="text-align:justify;">th</sup><span style="text-align:justify;"> </span><a href="http://www.katyisd.org/dept/olc/Pages/FolkLifeFestival.aspx" style="text-align:justify;">Annual Folk Life Festival</a><span style="text-align:justify;">, visitors will get a chance to experience pioneer life by seeing how they dressed, how they survived, the types of foods they prepared and even where their children went to school.</span><span style="text-align:justify;">  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">Other activities include:</span><span style="text-align:justify;">  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">blacksmith demonstrations, weaving and spinning, Native American dancing, and honey beekeeping among other presentations. Admission is free!</span><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Visitors will be able to tour the newly renovated facility as they walk the grounds, visit the ponds and see the new science and history classrooms.<br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">The festival and open house will be scaled back in size to accommodate social distancing.  Because this is an outdoor event, facial coverings are optional but are required upon entrance to the event and in all common areas such as classrooms, restrooms and any spaces where social distancing cannot be maintained.  Access to buildings will also be limited to 75% capacity.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>What:</strong><strong>             <br></strong><strong>35</strong><strong><sup>th</sup></strong><strong> Annual Folk Life Festival</strong></p><p><strong>Where:</strong>           </p><p>Kenneth D. Katy ISD Employees Hard Work Rewarded with a One Time Lump Sum PaymentKaty ISD Employees Hard Work Rewarded with a One Time Lump Sum Payment2021-04-29T16:08:47Z<div class="ExternalClass235426E7C89C46D79239E94893DA5190"><p><span style="text-align:justify;">A</span><span style="text-align:justify;">s staff members across Katy Independent School District begin to wrap up the 2020-21 academic year, the District's Board of Trustees is recognizing the challenges employees have managed as they delivered successful student learning and support across the District throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.  Tonight, Trustees discussed and approved a one-time $500 lump sum payment for full-time employees and a one-time lump sum payment of $250 to part-time employees. </span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">“From our operations staff, to food services employees, to our teachers, principals and support staff, the Board and I want to personally thank employees for everything they have done this year to help our students continue learning and stay motivated, amidst the circumstances and challenges presented," said Ashley Vann, Katy ISD Board President.  “A global pandemic, coupled with the recent winter freeze, has made this an extremely challenging school year for Katy ISD families and our staff members.  I am in awe of everyone who has gone above and beyond during these trying times," added Vann. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">To be eligible for the one-time lump sum payment, employment with Katy ISD must have begun by January 4, 2021.  In addition, substitutes who have worked at least 70 days during this pandemic year will receive a one-time lump sum payment of $250.00.  <br><br></p><p><br><br></p></div>
Katy ISD Superintendent Message Looks Toward a Return to NormalKaty ISD Superintendent Message Looks Toward a Return to Normal2021-04-16T19:04:35Z<div class="ExternalClass7D68DF67B949441890C8A517CB13D190"><p><span style="text-align:justify;">In just a couple of weeks, Katy Independent School District will be closing out another successful school year, this one undoubtedly a memorable one with the struggles and challenges of the COVID-19 global pandemic.  Yet it also included a year with many stories of resilience from both students and staff members. </span><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">“We are almost at the finish line!  Despite the stressors of this past year, there were so many accomplishments that continued our Katy ISD story of excellence and perseverance," said Dr. Ken Gregorski, Superintendent of Schools at Katy ISD.  “Our teachers and staff provided extraordinary in-person and virtual learning experiences for all students when many schools across the nation could not.  Our students participated in all campus programs including athletics, fine arts and FFA," added Gregorski.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Because the Texas Education Agency's (TEA) current public health guidelines will expire at the close of this academic year, the District anticipates returning to normal operations on June 1.  Students and staff members will no longer be required to wear facial coverings, daily COVID-19 notifications will cease, the Katy Virtual Academy (KVA) will end and campuses will welcome back parents and volunteers at 100% capacity. <br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">​Throughout the pandemic, Katy ISD has continued to maintain an A+ rating by Niche as well as the prestigious recognition of being known as the second-best employer in Texas. <br></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><a href="/Pages/Superintendent-Message.aspx">Superintendent Gregorski's entire message can be found here</a> </p><p><br><br></p></div>
