Katy ISD Superintendent Message Looks Toward a Return to NormalKaty ISD Superintendent Message Looks Toward a Return to Normal2021-04-16T19:04:35Z<div class="ExternalClass7D68DF67B949441890C8A517CB13D190"><p><span style="text-align:justify;">In just a couple of weeks, Katy Independent School District will be closing out another successful school year, this one undoubtedly a memorable one with the struggles and challenges of the COVID-19 global pandemic.  Yet it also included a year with many stories of resilience from both students and staff members. </span><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">“We are almost at the finish line!  Despite the stressors of this past year, there were so many accomplishments that continued our Katy ISD story of excellence and perseverance," said Dr. Ken Gregorski, Superintendent of Schools at Katy ISD.  “Our teachers and staff provided extraordinary in-person and virtual learning experiences for all students when many schools across the nation could not.  Our students participated in all campus programs including athletics, fine arts and FFA," added Gregorski.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Because the Texas Education Agency's (TEA) current public health guidelines will expire at the close of this academic year, the District anticipates returning to normal operations on June 1.  Students and staff members will no longer be required to wear facial coverings, daily COVID-19 notifications will cease, the Katy Virtual Academy (KVA) will end and campuses will welcome back parents and volunteers at 100% capacity. <br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">​Throughout the pandemic, Katy ISD has continued to maintain an A+ rating by Niche as well as the prestigious recognition of being known as the second-best employer in Texas. <br></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><a href="/Pages/Superintendent-Message.aspx">Superintendent Gregorski's entire message can be found here</a> </p><p><br><br></p></div>
Katy ISD Named "2021 Best Communities for Music Education"Katy ISD Named "2021 Best Communities for Music Education"2021-04-08T20:58:40Z<div class="ExternalClassC08D7665F5944FFE8900C3E6F0A25EC9"><p><span style="text-align:justify;">For the past 17 years, Katy Independent School District has received the “Best Communities for Music Education" designation from the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation for the District's outstanding commitment to music education</span><span style="text-align:justify;">.  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">Of NAMM's 22 years of announcing the recognition, the District has been awarded the designation 19 times total. </span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">The Best Communities for Music Education designation is presented to districts that demonstrate outstanding efforts by school communities in supporting music education as part of the school district's core curriculum.  This year, NAMM Foundation recognized 686 school districts and 80 individual schools. <br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">“The benefits of music education include brain development, social-emotional learning, relationship development, team building and learning a lifelong skill," said Katy ISD Executive Director of Fine Arts Damon Archer.  “Our Katy ISD fine arts educators continually demonstrate outstanding achievement in their efforts to provide quality music experiences and training for all of our students," added Archer.  </p><p style="text-align:justify;">To qualify for the Best Communities designation, Katy ISD answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs.  Responses were verified with school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><br></p><p style="text-align:center;"><img src="/PublishingImages/2021%20NAMM%20Best%20Commuinities%20for%20Music%20Education.jpg" alt="" style="margin:5px;width:400px;height:400px;" /><br></p><p><br></p></div>
Pre-Kindergarten Registration for 2021-2022 School Year Begins April 1Pre-Kindergarten Registration for 2021-2022 School Year Begins April 12021-03-03T20:02:23Z<div class="ExternalClass79D972F6C7844BEB998F24EEC1E3D3BF"><p>Online registration for the Katy Independent School District Pre-Kindergarten program for the 2021-2022 school year will open April 1, 2021.  Parents must complete the online registration process through <a href="/registration/Pages/default.aspx">Katy ISD's PowerSchool Registration website</a> in order for their child to be screened for program eligibility.<br></p><p>The Katy ISD Pre-Kindergarten program follows the state Pre-K guidelines which focus on oral language development, reading and math readiness, as well as science and social studies knowledge and skills.  Click the <a href="/dept/Interv/Pages/Prekindergarten.aspx">Katy ISD Pre-Kindergarten program link</a> for a list of eligibility requirements or call the Office of Interventions, at 281-237-7062. </p><p><strong>Pre-Kindergarten classes will be held at the following campuses:</strong></p><p><span style="text-decoration:underline;">English Speaking Classes:</span>  Alexander, Bear Creek, Bethke, Bryant, Campbell, Cimarron, Creech, Davidson, Exley, Franz, Golbow, Griffin, Hayes, Holland, Hutsell, Jenks, Katy, Kilpatrick, King, Leonard, Mayde Creek, McElwain, McRoberts, Morton Ranch, Nottingham, Pattison, Randolph, Rhoads, Rylander, Schmalz, Shafer, Stanley, Stephens, Sundown, West Memorial, Wilson, Winborn, Wolfe, Wolman and WoodCreek elementary schools.<br></p><p><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Spanish Speaking Classes</span>:  Bear Creek, Campbell, Fielder, Franz, Hutsell, Jenks, King, McRoberts, Memorial Parkway, Morton Ranch, Rhoads, Schmalz, Stephens, Sundown and Williams elementary schools.</p><p>Parents with questions can email:  <a href="mailto:prekindergarten@katyisd.org">prekindergarten@katyisd.org</a><br></p><p><br style="font-family:"times new roman", times, serif;font-size:12px;"></p></div>
