Student Absences

If your student must miss school, please contact Helen Helm at 281-237-6405 or email Helen at helenjhelm@katyisd.org .    It is best to let the attendance clerk know if your student is out so that you do not receive a call from the district and to avoid unexcused absences.

If your student is out with illness; but not sick enough to go to the doctor, please write a note explaining the illness.   A parent is allowed 8 written notes within a 6-month period.

If your student has a doctor, dentist or any other medical appointment, please ask for a school excuse note and turn it into the attendance office.     A note should be turned in upon the student's return to school or may be faxed 281-644-1675 or emailed to the attendance clerk.

If 3 unexcused absences are completed in a 4-week period, a Compulsory Attendance Notification (CAN) will generate from the Katy I.S.D. Police Department.  So, please contact the attendance office.

Early Dismissal and Late Arrival

Any time a student leaves or enters the building after the tardy bell, the student must be signed out at the front office.   There is a QR code to scan with your phone that will bring up a form to be filled out, once the form is completed, we will check your ID and call for your student if they are leaving.   The same applies to the students coming in, the QR is scanned, the form filled out and the students are sent in to their classes.

Exemplary Attendance

To receive an Exemplary Attendance award, you must not miss school, period.   Excused and Unexcused are considered for this award.
