Please make sure your child arrives at school on time. The school day begins promptly at 8:25 a.m. The car drop off line can become extremely crowded in the morning. (Your child is never tardy when they ride the bus.) If you choose to drive your child to school, please make allowances on rainy days and leave your home earlier to avoid your child being tardy. Tardies will count against your child's exemplary (perfect) attendance.
When you bring your child to school the same day after a doctor's appointment, bring the doctor's note and your child will not be tardy (if they arrive before 9:50 a.m.). This is considered a partial day absence, if a doctor's note is provided. If your student arrives to school after 9:50am without a doctor's note, this is considered a full day unexcused absence unless the reason for the late arrival is excused.
NEED TO REPORT AN ABSENCE?
All absences must be reported to the Attendance Office on a daily basis.
You may call in to report your child absent on the day of the absence only at 281-234-1665 or Online. For prior days absences a note is required signed by the parent/guardian. The note must include the reason for the absence; the child's first and last name, grade level and the date/s the absence/s are for. Telephone or personal contact by the parent/guardian with the Attendance Clerk is the preferred method of reporting a student absence.
Written notes or doctor's notes are required within three days of the absence.
If you do not report your child's absence on the day of, your child will be marked UNEXCUSED. A COMPULSORY ATTENDANCE NOTIFICATION (CAN) LETTER IS SENT WHEN A STUDENT HAS 3 OR MORE UNEXCUSED ABSENCES IN A 4-WEEK PERIOD OR 10 OR MORE UNEXCUSED ABSENCES IN A 6-MONTH PERIOD. If your child misses more than 5 consecutive days, the district require a doctor's excuse upon return to school.
It is also a good idea to send a DOCTOR'S NOTE WHENEVER POSSIBLE when your child returns to avoid your child having too many personal illness absences. A FAILURE TO ATTEND SCHOOL LETTER IS SENT WHEN A STUDENT HAS 8 OR MORE PERSONAL ILLNESS ABSENCES IN A 6- MONTH PERIOD.
Pre-arranged absences (excused and unexcused) can submitted for review. Assignments will not be given to students early. Students will have to make up all work upon their return to school. Please visit the Compulsory Attendance link below for additional information.
You are welcome to contact teachers directly to report an absence, however, the Attendance Clerk must be notified as well.
For information regarding compulsory attendance, please visit:
If your child is checked out before 9:50 a.m., he/she will be absent. Any student that is checked out after 9:50 a.m. will have a partial day absence. Please send a doctor's note back with your child and the absence is excused.
To clarify, any child that is checked out before 3:35 p.m. that is not going home ill or to a doctor's appointment will have an UNEXCUSED partial day absence. UNEXCUSED partial day absence will count against the student's exemplary attendance (perfect attendance).
Students may not be checked out after 3:00 p.m.
If you have a family emergency, please call the front office or Registrar (281-234-1665) in the morning to report your child's absence. When your child returns to school send a written note explaining the circumstances. A determination will be made as to whether or not the absence is excused or unexcused.
Please plan your vacations during the summer, Thanksgiving, winter, or spring breaks. All absences for vacation during the school year are UNEXCUSED.
