Taylor High School to Present The Three Musketeershttps://www.katyisd.org/campus/THS/Lists/latestnews/DispForm.aspx?ID=594Taylor High School to Present The Three Musketeers2021-09-17T12:45:03Z

Katy, TX – The Taylor PlayMakers swing into the new season with the swashbuckling sword play of The Three Musketeers. Based Alexandre Dumas' classic novel, the play adapted by Tony-award winning playwright Ken Ludwig is a tale of heroism, treachery, close escapes and above all, honor.

The Three Musketeers tells the story of a brother and sister, D'Artagnan and Sabine, (played by sophomore Aidan Orsargos and junior Kaila Doshi) who set off for Paris in search of adventure. D'Artagnan hopes to join the valiant King's Musketeers. Sabine, meanwhile, is being sent to a convent school, but decides quickly that it's not for her. She'd rather fight by her brother's side. The villainous Cardinal Richelieu (freshman William McClelland) and Milady (junior Roxy Dalmeida) have different plans for the siblings. However, with their new best friends the three Musketeers (senior Sebastian De La Espriella, junior Liam Dunn, and freshman Tolamise Oladapo) by their sides, they save the day for king and country.

Preparation for the production required many of the actors to begin working before school started to learn stage combat techniques from certified fight choreographer H. Russ Brown. When asked what it was like to learn how to swordfight on stage, Sebastian De La Espriella described it as, “like reliving my childhood fantasies." The actors are having a lot of fun on stage and, without a doubt, the audience will too.

Performances take place October 7, 8, and 9 at 7:00 p.m. at the James E. Taylor Performing Arts Center. Visit taylorplaymakers.org for ticket information.

"We exist to serve our students and their families, which is why their feedback is a critical part of the process."

In 2017, Katy ISD launched its first-ever strategic plan, which included goals for personalized learning, digital infrastructure, recruitment and retention, student well-being, and more. Stakeholder groups assess the plan annually to review progress and identify the next steps. The current strategic plan ends in 2022.

All parents, students, employees, and community members are encouraged to participate before the survey closes on September 30.

For more information about the District's strategic plan, visit the KatyISD Strategic Design website.

Katy ISD Celebrates its AP Capstone Diploma Recipientshttps://www.katyisd.org/Lists/latestnews/DispForm.aspx?ID=1494Katy ISD Celebrates its AP Capstone Diploma Recipients2021-08-30T20:40:11Z

Walking across the stage and receiving a high school diploma is a lifetime milestone that opens up numerous opportunities for graduating seniors. At Katy Independent School District, 91 students recently earned an additional diploma - the AP Capstone Diploma™ - while seven students have earned the AP Seminar and Research Certificate™ for the 2020-21 school year. The AP Capstone is a College Board diploma program that is based on two yearlong AP courses — the AP Seminar and the AP Research. This program helps students to develop critical thinking, research, collaboration, and presentation skills that are critical to academic success.

“We proudly recognize the achievements of students who participated in the AP Capstone Diploma program," said Dr. Christine Caskey, Chief Academic Officer for Katy ISD. “Our AP Capstone students and teachers showed extraordinary commitment while facing historic challenges. This is a meaningful college readiness program that will serve our students well after high school," added Caskey.

To receive the AP Capstone Diploma, students must earn scores of three or higher in AP Seminar, AP Research, and on four additional AP Exams. Over 2,000 schools participated in the AP Capstone program worldwide during the 2020-21 school year, which lead to approximately 11,900 students earning the AP Capstone Diploma and 7,700 earned the AP Seminar and Research Certificate.

Unlike traditional AP subject exams with a single end-of-year assessment, AP Seminar and AP Research assessments are project-based and evaluate skills mastery through group projects, presentations, and individual essays completed throughout the year. Instead of focusing on one specific academic discipline, AP Seminar and AP Research are interdisciplinary. Students are empowered to create research projects based on topics of personal interest and they are assessed on critical thinking, research, collaboration, time management, and presentation skills needed to complete their projects.

Pictures of some Katy ISD Seniors who received the AP Capstone Diploma
