Art is and can be many things to different people. It can be a way to share emotions and feelings. It can be a way to communicate ideas. It can also be a way to discover and investigate our living world. Lastly, art can be all these things.
Since art can take so many forms, we believe that in our classrooms there is no "right" or "single" way to make art. However, we believe that good artwork, the kind that makes you proud, takes "care". Here at NCE, we strive to make the art classroom focused around you, our students. We are excited to create art with you whether we are learning in person or virtually. Here is what you can expect.
Primary:
NCE students will learn about the elements of art and develop skills that will help them express themselves creatively. Our primary students will also begin learning about how artists seek out inspiration and why they make art as a way to stimulate and promote their own inventiveness and creativity. Some artists we will learn about include Eric Carle, Henri Matisse, Henry Rousseau, Wassily Kandinsky, Vincent Van Gogh and Alexander Calder.
Intermediate:
As NCE students grow, so do their imaginations. To help our students explore more complex ideas, our intermediate students will refine their artistic mindsets and skills through acquiring a deeper art vocabulary (elements and principles) and learning new techniques. Some artists we will learn about include Frida Kahlo, Claude Monet, Wayne Thiebaud, Georgia O'Keeffe, Pablo Picasso, Claes Oldenburg, M.C. Escher and Leonardo da Vinci.
Note to Parents: Please dress students accordingly, as artists can get messy while creating masterpieces! Closed toe shoes are highly recommended.
