Katy ISD Announces Screening Deadline for Gifted and Talented ServicesKaty ISD Announces Screening Deadline for Gifted and Talented Services2021-09-30T21:24:09Z<div class="ExternalClassB7F66F0908574378B083315C2DD17E60"><p style="text-align:justify;">The State of Texas requires that various types of measures be used to identify students for gifted programs which include observations and standardized tests.  The GT program for elementary students in Katy ISD consists of a one-day pullout in the Challenge classroom with a teacher trained in gifted education.  </p><p style="text-align:justify;">Beginning October 12, 2021, Katy ISD students in grades 1-4 can be referred for screening for the 2022-2023 gifted and talented program.  Parents must complete a parent observation checklist, which can be obtained from the student's school or from the <a href="http://www.katyisd.org/dept/GT/Documents/Elementary%20Parent%20Checklist%20-%20%28English%29.pdf">Katy ISD website</a>.  To submit an online form, parents may contact the campus Challenge teacher.  KVA parents will receive an e-mail with a link to submit an online form. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">The deadline for completing and returning the parent checklist for students in grades 1-4 is <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>October 29, 2021</strong></span>.  Checklists that are not returned by the deadline will not be screened for service for the 2022-2023 school year.  </p><p style="text-align:justify;">A GT Awareness presentation for parents of students in grades 1-4 will be available on the Katy ISD Gifted and Talented website on Tuesday, October 19, 2021.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Transfer students who were screened in Fall 2021 and not identified for GT services, must wait one full academic year before they can be rescreened. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">Parents may contact campus counselors, elementary Challenge teachers, or GT facilitators if they have additional questions.  Elementary and secondary parent checklists may be found on the <a href="/dept/GT/Pages/default.aspx" target="_blank">Katy ISD GT and Advanced Academics webpage</a>. <br></p><p><br></p></div>
Katy ISD Encouraging Families to Apply for National School Lunch Program Katy ISD Encouraging Families to Apply for National School Lunch Program 2021-09-15T14:27:33Z<div class="ExternalClassC93452D1CC014F13A50567D7F2EBE659"><p>Thousands of Katy ISD families are still eligible for free and reduced price benefits including discounted exam and course fees and reduced internet service costs. Those families who have not submitted their annual National School Lunch Program application are missing out on these and other benefits! <br></p><p>“The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is currently providing free meals to all public school students because of the ongoing pandemic, though approximately 11,000 students who have not already submitted their meal application, are still eligible for a number of school related benefits," said Donna Pittenger, Executive Director of Katy ISD Nutrition and Food Service. “These include reduced SAT/ACT exam registration fees, discounts on home internet service, as well as discounted Katy ISD fine arts and athletic fees," added Pittenger.</p><p>Meal benefits applications for the 2021-2022 school year are available on the <a href="https://www.schoolcafe.com/katyisd" target="_blank">Katy ISD School Cafe</a>​. Families must submit a new meal benefits application each year, and only one application is required per household. Love and Logic Fall 2021Love and Logic Fall 20212021-09-07T16:58:26Z<div class="ExternalClassA00771D2F40A4255A22BAE17E1F1542B"><h3>​Love and Logic Parenting Classes will be offered over Zoom in the Fall semester of 2021. Participation options are listed in the chart below. Katy ISD families may register to attend any session. Dates and registration for Love and Logic courses will also be posted on the Professional Learning website. </h3><h3>Families who wish to participate in Love and Logic courses must register through the Katy ISD Pay  and Go System and pay $10 for the cost of the workbooks. Love and Logic Facilitators will arrange a grab-and-go for parents to pick up materials.</h3><h3>A minimum of 10 participants is required for each session.
