Jordan High School

Academic Decathlon/Octathlon

""Welcome to the Jordan High School Academic Decathlon website. Jordan High School opened its doors in 2020 and is the ninth high school in the Katy Independent School District - located in Katy, Texas (we are a city just west of Houston). We look forward to another exciting school year and a successful AD season.

Program Description from USAD website:

"The Academic Decathlon® is a ten-event scholastic competition for teams of high school students. Each high school enters a team of nine students: 3 "A" or Honor students, 3 "B" or Scholastic students, and 3 "C" or Varsity students.

The theme for the 2022-2023 Academic Decathlon® season is The American Revolution and the New Nation.

Academic Decathlon® is a team competition wherein students match their intellects with students from other schools. Students are tested in ten categories:
Art, Economics, Essay, Interview, Language and Literature, Mathematics, Music, Science, Social Science, and Speech.

Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals are awarded for individual events and total scores. Winning teams advance through the local, regional, and state levels of competition. The state champions compete at the national finals.

If you are interested in trying out for next year's Warrior Decathlon team, contact either one of the coaches.

Academic Octathlon

Similar to Decathlon, Academic Octathlon competition is comprised of eight events, including economics, literature, mathematics, social science, science, art, and music, and the Super Quiz event (an oral relay over all subjects). This competition is exclusively for ninth and tenth-grade students. If a student competes in the Octathlon competition, he/she CANNOT also compete in Decathlon.

If you are interested in participating in Academic Octathlon, please contact Mrs. Midkiff as soon as possible so you have all year to study the fascinating Cold War. We need students with A, B, and C averages and a love of learning, so please do not hesitate to contact us today to join the team!
