PE/Team Leader
Hi! My name is Lisa Madrigal and this will be my 9th year of teaching Physical Education at Shafer Elementary. I graduated from Texas A&M University in 1998 with a Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies.  I began my teaching career in First grade for 3 years. I then decided to be a stay at home mom to raise my three daughters. I returned to teaching at Shafer when my youngest started Kindergarten. I absolutely love teaching P.E. because I not only get to teach every single student at Shafer, but also get to play with them and have fun all day. My goals daily are creating a safe environment, establishing relationships and encouraging students to live a healthy lifestyle while having fun. You can be sure that my teaching partner, Mrs. Fey, and I will bust out in a song or dance and laugh during each class period. In my free time, I love to exercise, shop, travel, hunt and hang out with my family and friends. I also enjoy watching my daughters and students play sports. This is going to be an amazing year and I can’t wait to greet everyone on the first day of school. I’m so excited to have all of my students in the gym again

Art
Hi! My name is Julie Barentine, and I cannot wait to begin my 10th year of teaching Art at Shafer Elementary. This is my 20th year of teaching. I stayed home with my own children for 13 years. I have taught Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade, but enjoy teaching Art most of all. I graduated from James E. Taylor High School as well as Stephen F. Austin State University with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. In my Art class, I want my students to have the courage to create and enjoy the process of Art. I have three grown children and have been married for 33 years to my high school sweetheart. I love bird watching. I also enjoy kayaking, but during the bird migrations that’s where I’ll be with my binoculars. I look forward to another wonderful year at Shafer and can’t wait to see everyone.

Music
Hi everyone! My name is Mrs. Braddy and I’m beginning my 17th year of teaching music, and my fifth here at Shafer Elementary. I believe that everyone is musical, and that music education is a core part of a well-rounded education for children.

I am a graduate of THE Ohio State University with a BME and BM (Go Bucks!), and Silver Lake College of the Holy Family with a MM-Music Education and Kodaly Certificate. I also serve as our KatyISD Lead Teacher for Elementary Music.

I live in Katy with my husband Matt, son Mikael, and four dogs.

Hi! My name is Chiqui Fey, and I am excited to start my 29th year of teaching elementary Physical Education. I taught one year in San Antonio, met and married my husband, Mike, and moved to Houston in 1993. I taught in Alief ISD for 11 years. Mike and I moved to the country in Sealy and I moved to Katy ISD in 2004 where I taught at Rhoads Elementary until moving to Shafer Elementary when it opened in 2012. I graduated from Southwest Texas State University in 1992 with a Bachelor's degree in Exercise and Sports Science, with an all-level certification for Physical Education. I also earned a Master's degree in Educational Leadership from Lamar University in 2012. I absolutely love teaching elementary P.E. (I must love it-29 years!?!) It is my hope that every student feels safe, comfortable, and is excited about coming to my class. I want students to have fun and, at the same time, learn about lifelong healthy choices and activities. Mrs. Madrigal, my teaching partner, and I love to laugh and play with the students. Sometimes they (or we) never know what we might end up doing! We both feel that building healthy relationships with students fosters a sense of security and a willingness to do their personal best. Mike and I are celebrating our 28th wedding anniversary this summer! We have one daughter, Katie, who attends Texas A&M (whoop!) In our spare time, we like to get away in our travel trailer. I enjoy hanging out with family and friends. And, with all the time I had at home in 2020, I took up gardening and began to enjoy cooking-but don’t tell anyone.
I am looking forward to another GREAT year at Shafer Elementary! Looking forward to seeing everyone soon!

Art
My name is Shelby Nolte, and I cannot wait to begin my 2nd year of teaching at Shafer Elementary. Although I am still fairly new to Shafer, I am a Katy native and was a student of KatyISD from 2001-2012 and this will be my 6th year teaching in Katy! :)

I graduated from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor's degree in Education and minor in Fine Arts, go dawgs!

My goal is to make the art classroom a fun and safe environment where kids feel that they can express themselves, experiment, make mistakes, and make messes using the art supplies! I try very hard to incorporate as many art techniques in my classroom as possible throughout the year so that the kiddos all find something that they really enjoy doing. In my classroom, we are not striving for perfection, we are working together to find a positive means of expression and as a result making lots of cool stuff.

In my free time, I love decorating my house, planning and decorating for parties (I blew up all the balloons at my wedding with my mom AND she also made my cake),  painting flowers, hanging out with my family, going to church, traveling, working out and drinking McDonalds coffee. Can`t wait to get to know each and every one of you!

Librarian
Howdy!  My name is Traci Trykoski, and I cannot wait to start my 10th year as the librarian at Shafer Elementary!  I graduated from Texas A&M University (WHOOP!) in 2002 with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I taught 4th grade for 3 years in Katy ISD, and while I was there I began my Masters in Library Science degree through Sam Houston State University!  I graduated with my Masters in 2007.  I moved to a private school for my first librarian position, but I made my way back out to Katy in 2008 and have been here ever since!  I opened Shafer Elementary in 2012 as the librarian, and I LOVE our school and my job!  I strive to make our library a fun and welcoming place for our students and teachers!  My favorite part of my job is seeing the smile on a student’s face when we find just the right book for them!  Watching our Knights find their love for reading is such a blessing!  In my free time, I love to spend time with my family, read, craft, and travel!  I have been married to my wonderful husband for 14 years, and we have two amazing kids!  I am looking forward to an awesome year with our Shafer Silver Knights!
