Hello! My name is Katie Babin and I am excited to begin my 7th year teaching Special Education in Katy ISD. I am a product of Katy ISD, graduating from Fielder Elementary, Cinco Ranch Jr. High and Cinco Ranch High School in 2011. I graduated from Texas Tech University in 2015 (Wreck ‘Em!!!) with my Bachelors in Multidisciplinary Studies and Special Education.

I love inspiring my students to reach their potential and connecting with students who have learning difficulties. I have a passion for developing positive behaviors and supporting everyone that comes into my classroom however they need.

I am local to the Katy area and have been married to my husband, Patrick, for 2 years. We just welcomed our first child, Joseph, into our family this summer and have a dog named Henry who loves being a puppy brother!

Outside of school, I love to be with my family, collect cute water bottles and tumblers, and search for the best chips and queso in the area!

I can’t wait to welcome your student!

Hi! My name is Jenni Campbell-Watt, and I cannot wait to begin my 1st year as a Special Education teacher at Shafer Elementary.  It will be so great to get to know the students at Shafer, find out how they learn best and help them do that! I have been in education since 2015, with a passion for special education.  My background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and a Master’s in Library Management. I am from Australia but I’ve been in the USA for 11 years and as of 2019, am a proud US citizen!

I live in Katy with my family. My daughter Rose is in college at the University of Illinois in Chicago, after graduating from Seven Lakes High in 2020. Charlie, my son, is a sophomore at Seven Lakes High School and a keen tennis player. My husband Rob is an environmental consultant and loves to climb mountains. In my free time, I love reading mystery thrillers and going running around my neighborhood.

I am excited for this year at Shafer and to work with students. It’s going to be filled with fun, learning, and growing for them and me!

Hi! My name is Shipra Prakash, and I cannot wait to begin my 7th year of teaching and my first year at Shafer Elementary. I graduated from University of Houston Victoria with a Masters in Business! I left the corporate world just after a few years and while substituting for Katy ISD, I fell in love with teaching, got my teaching certificate and started teaching 6 years ago. I have two children, a son in SLJH and a daughter in SLHS. In my spare time I love reading books or watching TV, especially science fiction and thrillers!

In my classroom, I strive to foster a love for education while creating an environment where students feel safe, loved, and successful. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year with you and your sweet children!

Hi! My name is Sophia Vargas, and I am so excited to begin my 9th year total and 2nd year teaching Special Education at Shafer Elementary! I graduated from the University of Houston-Victoria with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I believe that the most important part of teaching is connection and creating positive relationships so my students know that they have someone that supports and believes in them. When I am not teaching, my kids keep me busy. I enjoy attending all of the extracurricular activities that they participate in, watching them do the things they love, and (loudly) cheering them on. I am looking forward to an amazing school year!

This is my 2nd year teaching at Shafer as a Paraprofessional.  I am currently working on completing my teaching certification at the University of Houston (Go Coogs!). I have two children, which both attend schools in Katy ISD, Thomas, 15 and Caitlyn, 13.  I have been married for almost 17 years to my wonderful husband Tom.  We also have one furry friend named Scout.

When I am not at Shafter I love crafting, watching football, cooking, and traveling.  I have a room totally dedicated to my craft addiction.  I am truly blessed to have my she-cave.  If I am not crafting then I am watching football.  I love football and my teams that can hear me cheering for are my son’s high school team,  Arizona Cardinals, the Aggies, and anyone playing the Cowboys (HAHA!). My other passion is cooking.  My husband and I love to create and try new recipes.  We are always developing new items of the week.  My kids are not a fan but we keep trying.  Lastly is traveling.  We love to do road trips!  We have driven to Grand Lake, CO, New Orleans, Orlando, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Nashville, and Key Largo.  It is amazing all the sites you get to see when on the road.  Family Fun Time!

This is going to be a fantastic year and I cannot wait to get to know all the students.
