Transportation

Katy ISD is a suburban school district that encompasses 181 square miles in Harris, Fort Bend, and Waller Counties. The eastern boundaries stretch into Houston's (the fourth largest city in the United States) energy corridor, approximately 16 miles from Houston's central business district.

The student population has grown to over 62,000+ students, (sustained by an ongoing 2-3 percent growth rate) including six high schools for a total of 53 schools. In general, transportation is provided to students living beyond approximately 1/2 mile from the school property for elementary students, and approximately one-mile for junior high and high school students.

The Transportation Department provides fuel and vehicle maintenance for the district's fleet of over 642 vehicles representing the following departments: Administration, Transportation, Maintenance, Technology, Technical Services, Computer Services, Food Services, Warehouse, Police Department, and Network Services.
