Technology is an integral tool that is utilized on a daily basis by the students, teachers, administrators and staff of Katy ISD.

Katy ISD has been on the forefront of technology in Texas for several years, and ranks among the 12 percent of school districts in the United States designated as high technology districts by the CEO Forum. Katy ISD's advancement in technology began in 1992 when a proactive Board of Trustees approved a 5-year technology plan to establish and maintain instructional technology, including increased teacher training to empower students with effective learning skills. From 1992 to the present, technology utilization has continued to expand and has been an integral part of the success of the district. A committee composed of teachers, administrators, community members, and IT Department leadership, is charged with overseeing the Katy ISD Long-range Technology Plan. KISD’s plan correlates to both the Texas and the National Long Range Technology Plans, and is updated yearly, and completely revised every three years.

Katy ISD's technology infrastructure provides reliable access to applications that are vital to the day to day operations of the district. Standards for technology equipment and software are in place throughout the district. With the growth of the Internet, and the access our teachers, students, and staff have to information worldwide, the use of technology in Katy ISD is expanding as fast as the development of technology itself. Utilization of Web 2.0 tools in Katy ISD exploded during the 2009-2010 school year and continues to be a focus for the 2010-2011 school year.  Teacher testimonials indicate that their students are much more engaged when using these tools. More and more of our teachers acknowledge the need to use web tools to instruct and are offering students a choice in how they present their learning. By meeting the digital learner where they are most comfortable, teachers are able to keep students interested and engaged in their learning.
