EYES on STAAR
The Eyes on STAAR website for Katy ISD provides an overview of STAAR, the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR), a new student assessment and accountability system designed to replace the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS). STAAR implementation begins in the 2011-2012 school year for grades 3 – 8 and for incoming grade 9 students (Class of 2015) with the STAAR End-of-Course (STAAR – EOC). Some high school students will continue to take TAKS until graduation.
Each area of this site will include explanations and videos using resources and information provided by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). These areas will assist families, staff, and community with understanding the specific requirements of the STAAR as it relates to our elementary, junior high and high school students. The Special Populations tab will address special education services and English Language Learners. As TEA defines more actions related to the STAAR, this Web site will be updated.
General Information - Transitioning Questions
Eyes on STAAR will be a recurring publication throughout the 2011 – 2012 school year providing questions and answers related to the transition to the new state assessment and accountability standards.

The current issue of
Eyes on STARR contains transitioning questions related to STAAR. Much of the information are highlights taken from a document, the House Bill 3 Transition Plan, found on the Texas Education Agency (TEA) website,
http://www.tea.state.tx.us/student.assessment/staar. The STAAR will continue to be based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
